richten wir den Fokus heute gezielter auf die Geschehnisse innerhalb der Kryptomärkte und klammern die makroökonomischen Inhalte ein wenig aus – auch wenn diese aufgrund der globalen Gemengelage und der engen Verflechtungen natürlich niemals komplett zu trennen sind.

Wo stehen wir also aktuell? In den letzten Wochen war ich sehr fokussiert auf die Warnsignale. Für den heutigen Report habe ich mich ganz bewusst einmal in die Perspektive der Bullen begeben, um zu prüfen, welche Parameter dafür sprechen, dass wir das Tief bereits gesehen haben. Ich stelle diese Argumente dem aktuellen On-Chain-Bild gegenüber. Also, let’s go.

Die Perspektive der Bullen: Ist der Boden drin?

Wenn man der These Glauben schenken möchte, dass der schlimmste Verkaufsdruck bereits hinter uns liegt, dann lassen sich dafür durchaus valide Parameter in Betracht ziehen:

Supply im Profit

Betrachtet man den Prozentsatz des zirkulierenden Bitcoin-Angebots, der sich im Profit befindet, fällt auf, dass dieser Wert in den zyklischen Tiefpunkten über die Jahre hinweg immer höhere Tiefs gebildet hat. Selbst wenn man die Short-Term Holder einbezieht, zeigt sich eine fundamentale Resilienz. Nach dieser Theorie speichert das Netzwerk von Zyklus zu Zyklus mehr Wert, was darauf hindeuten könnte, dass wir den absoluten Makro-Boden bereits hinter uns gelassen haben.

Prozentuale Verteilung der Coins im Profit

Ein ähnliches Bild zeigt sich bei der Verteilung der Coins, die selbst am tiefsten Punkt des Marktes noch im Plus waren: Dieser Prozentsatz steigt von Zyklus zu Zyklus an. Allerdings müssen wir hier direkt ein großes Aber einfügen: Diese Metrik wird massiv durch die Long-Term Holder verzerrt. Viele dieser LTH halten ältere Coins über Jahre hinweg und verkaufen selbst in schweren Krisen nicht. Der Anstieg des profitablen Angebots im Tief könnte also schlichtweg ein Nebenprodukt einer wachsenden, passiven Hodler-Basis sein und weniger ein Zeichen aktueller Marktkraft.

12-Monats-RSI

Bereits Anfang März hatte ich über den 12-Monats-RSI gesprochen. Historisch gesehen haben Regionen zwischen 39 und 44 Punkten in dieser Metrik die ultimative Bodenzone markiert. Im Februar haben wir einen Wert von 41 erreicht. Ein starkes Argument für die Bullen – wäre da nicht die zeitliche Komponente. In der Vergangenheit wurde diese Region immer erst etwa ein Jahr nach dem Erreichen des eigentlichen Zyklus-Hochs angelaufen. In diesem Zyklus passierte es nach gerade einmal vier Monaten. Diese enorme Beschleunigung lässt Raum für Spekulationen: Haben wir den Zyklus im Zeitraffer durchgespielt, oder steht die echte Bereinigung erst noch bevor?

Warum die echte Kapitulation noch fehlt

Diese bullischen Punkte sind zweifellos diskutable Anhaltspunkte. Auf der Gegenseite finden sich jedoch die – meiner Meinung nach – deutlich schwerwiegenderen Thesen, die dafür sprechen, dass Bitcoin noch einen steinigen Weg nach unten vor sich hat.

NUPL

Der NUPL (Net Unrealized Profit/Loss) bildet das Gesamtsentiment des Marktes ab. Er zeigt mathematisch, was Bitcoin-Halter unterm Strich gewinnen oder verlieren würden, wenn sie ihre Positionen zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt liquidieren würden. Berechnet wird er über das Verhältnis von unrealisierten Gewinnen und Verlusten zur gesamten Marktkapitalisierung (NUPL = (Market Cap - Realized Cap) / Market Cap).

Historisch betrachtet waren die Phasen, in denen der NUPL unter die kritische Linie von 0 fiel, die absolut besten Kaufgelegenheiten für Bitcoin. In diesen Bereichen haben die Investoren kapituliert. Schauen wir auf den aktuellen Chart, stellen wir fest: Wir sind bisher noch nicht einmal ansatzweise in diesen negativen Bereich vorgedrungen. Der Markt hält nach wie vor an zu viel Optimismus fest.

Kapitulation im Verlust

Wenn wir untersuchen, ob wir bereits eine echte, finale Kapitulation im Markt gesehen haben, lautet die Antwort: Nein. Im Gegensatz zu allen vorherigen Zyklen blieben die Verkäufe im großen Verlust bisher extrem begrenzt.

Das zeigt uns die Realized Profit/Loss Ratio. Diese Kennzahl teilt die gesamten realisierten Gewinne durch die gesamten realisierten Verluste in einem bestimmten Zeitraum und gibt uns damit einen direkten Einblick in die Marktpsychologie:

• Ratio > 1: Es werden mehr Gewinne als Verluste realisiert (bullisches Sentiment)

• Ratio < 1: Es werden mehr Verluste als Gewinne realisiert (bärisches Sentiment)

• Ratio ~ 1: Ein neutraler Markt im Gleichgewicht

In den absoluten Tiefpunkten der vergangenen Bärenmärkte sackte diese Ratio im Zuge panischer Verkäufe immer in den Bereich von 0,1 ab. In der aktuellen Korrektur lag unser Tiefstwert bisher bei gerade einmal 0,4. Das bedeutet, dass der finale Abverkauf, bei dem die schwachen Hände ihre Positionen in den Markt werfen, schlichtweg noch nicht stattgefunden hat.

Das Retail-Interesse schwindet: Robinhood im enormen Einbrüchen

Dass wir uns in einer klassischen, zermürbenden Marktphase befinden, in der das Interesse von Retail komplett austrocknet, lässt sich hervorragend am Zustand der Krypto-Broker ablesen. Robinhood liefert uns hier ein unmissverständliches Signal: Im Jahresvergleich sind die Krypto-Umsätze der Plattform um 47 % eingebrochen. Als Konsequenz versucht das Management nun strategisch, die Abhängigkeit vom volatilen Kryptogeschäft nachhaltig zu reduzieren (Quelle: Coindesk).

Diese Entwicklung deckt sich eins zu eins mit dem kontinuierlich sinkenden Spot-Volumen an den Börsen. Es gibt aktuell einfach keine frische, externe Nachfrage, die den Markt organisch tragen könnte. Was wir sehen, ist ein zirkuläres Spiel unter den verbliebenen Marktteilnehmern.

Liquidity Peak und Zins-Falle

Um das Bild abzurunden, müssen wir trotz des Krypto-Fokus auf die übergeordnete Liquidität schauen. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass die Federal Reserve in diesem Jahr die Zinsen noch einmal anheben wird, liegt mittlerweile bei über 50 %. Ein solches Szenario ist traditionell pures Gift für Risk-On-Assets.

Die globale Geldmenge ist zuletzt zwar weiter angestiegen, das hatte jedoch einen spezifischen Grund: Die Fed und das US-Treasury Department haben seit Oktober über verschiedene Kanäle rund 600 Milliarden USD an zusätzlicher Liquidität in das System gepumpt – weitaus mehr, als ursprünglich anzunehmen war. Das ist der eigentliche Grund, warum Bitcoin und der breitere Kryptomarkt seit Februar überhaupt so viel Resilienz zeigen konnten.

Das Problem: Wir erreichen nun sehr offensichtlich langsam das Topping-Level, dieser künstlichen Liquiditätszufuhr. Da dieser jüngste Anstieg fast ausschließlich auf das gezielte Eingreifen der FED und des US-Finanzministeriums zurückzuführen ist, wird es für Risiko-Assets in der Breite zunehmend schwerer, die aktuelle Stärke beizubehalten.

Seit nunmehr vier Wochen verzeichnet Bitcoin eine deutliche Underperformance gegenüber der Nasdaq und dem S&P 500, die weiterhin von den extremen Bewertungen der KI-Stocks getrieben werden. Dem Kryptomarkt fehlt die inhärente, fundamentale Stärke. Aus diesem Grund bleibe ich meiner übergeordneten These treu und visiere für die kommenden Wochen tiefere Preisregionen an.

Geopolitischer Exkurs: Ein Schein-Frieden im Iran

Zum Zeitpunkt des Schreibens dieses Reports kursieren verschiedene, bisher jedoch unbestätigte Meldungen über eine möglichen Verlängerung der Waffenruhe im Iran-Konflikt und eine potenzielle Wiederöffnung der Straße von Hormuz. Zum Wochenstart (Dienstag) könnte dies die Märkte kurzfristig positiv stimmen und den Ölpreis unter Druck setzen.

Mittelfristig solltet ihr euch davon jedoch nicht blenden lassen. Selbst bei einer politischen Einigung sind die strukturellen Schäden der Blockade nicht über Nacht vom Tisch. Es wird Monate dauern, bis die globalen Lieferketten, Schiffsrouten und die maritime Logistik in der Region wieder vollständig hergestellt sind. Eine schnelle Normalisierung der Ölpreise auf das Vorkriegsniveau halte ich kurzfristig für unrealistisch. Die strukturellen Belastungen für die Märkte und der damit verbundene inflationäre Druck bleiben uns erhalten.

Drei Anleihemärkte auf drei Kontinenten brechen im selben Moment. Es ist eine extrem schwierige Makro-Lage. Und ich sage es in aller Deutlichkeit vorweg: Dies ist absolut keine Zeit für unüberlegte Risk-On-Wetten. Wer jetzt blind investiert, läuft Gefahr, von der makroökonomischen Schwerkraft erdrückt zu werden.

Globale Anleihen weisen den Weg

Wir müssen über den wichtigsten Markt der Welt sprechen, der aktuell lautstark Alarm schlägt. Die Renditen globaler Staatsanleihen explodieren synchron. Was wir hier sehen, ist kein vorübergehendes kleines Thema, sondern ein systemischer Vertrauensverlust.

• USA: Die Rendite der 10-jährigen US-Staatsanleihe ist innerhalb kürzester Zeit um harte +28 Basispunkte auf 4,64 % geschossen. Schlimmer noch: Die 30-jährige US-Anleihe zahlt zum ersten Mal seit der Finanzkrise 2007 wieder über 5 % Zinsen. Eine 25-Milliarden-Dollar-Auktion langlaufender Treasuries stieß auf extrem mäßige Nachfrage – Investoren fordern immer höhere Risikoaufschläge.

• Großbritannien: Die Rendite für 30-jährige Gilts ist auf schmerzhafte 5,7 % explodiert – der höchste Stand seit März 1998.

• Japan: Das Land, das drei Jahrzehnte in der Deflation verbrachte, sieht plötzlich eine Inflation von 4,9 %. Die Rendite der 40-jährigen japanischen Staatsanleihe ist auf 4,11 % gestiegen – der höchste Stand seit Einführung dieser Laufzeit im Jahr 2007. Die Bank of Japan steht unter massivem Druck, die Zinsen im Juni drastisch anzuheben.

• EU: Die Eurozone liegt im Durchschnitt bei 3.67% für 30-jährige Anleihen im Vergleich noch relativ niedrig, was jedoch überwiegend auf Deutschland zurückzuführen ist. In Frankreich und Italien haben wir die 4,6% bereits überschritten.

Gleichzeitig fahren die historischen Käufer dieser Schulden ihre Bestände aggressiv zurück. Chinas Bestände an US-Staatsanleihen sind auf 653 Milliarden Dollar gefallen (Das ist das niedrigste Level seit September 2008). China halbiert seine Dollar-Schulden systematisch und schichtet in physisches Gold um. Auch japanische Investoren stoßen US-Bonds im schnellsten Tempo seit vier Jahren ab (alleine knapp 4%, $47.7 Milliarden, in einem einzigen Monat) (Quelle: Reuters)

Wenn die FED und ausländische Zentralbanken als Käufer ausfallen, müssen die Renditen steigen, um inländisches Kapital anzuziehen. Die Ära des billigen Geldes für Staaten scheint endgültig vorbei.

Geht Smart-Money von Bord?

Aktien stehen nahe ihren ATHs, weil man uns erzählt, die KI-Gewinne seien real. Die Anleiherenditen stehen auf Mehrjahrzehnte-Hochs, weil die Staatsschuldenberge real sind. Beide Märkte können nicht gleichzeitig recht haben. Und historisch betrachtet liegt der Anleihen-Markt selten falsch.

Wir stehen vor einer großen Rotation des Kapitals. Wenn Pensionskassen, Family Offices und HNWIs historisch hohe, praktisch “risikofreie” Renditen von 5 % oder mehr auf Staatsanleihen bekommen, schwindet der Appetit auf überbewertete Aktien rapide. Warum das volle Marktrisiko tragen, wenn die “sichere” Rendite auf der anderen Seite wartet und wohlmöglich die langfristige Inflation schlägt.

Ein Warnsignal kommt von der Bank of America: Das durchschnittliche Cash-Level globaler Fondsmanager ist im Mai von 4,3 % auf 3,9 % gefallen. Ein Cash-Bestand von unter 4,0 % löst das konträre Verkaufssignal der BofA für globale Aktien aus. Historisch bedeutete dieses Signal in der Mehrheit der Fälle signifikante Marktkorrekturen innerhalb der folgenden vier Wochen. Das Smart Money ist all-in gegangen und hat kein Pulver mehr, um die Kurse weiter zu stützen.

Was bedeutet das für Kredite und den Immobilienmarkt?

Die Hypothekenzinsen (Mortgage Rates) in den USA gehen Richtung 7 %-Marke (Quelle: Bankrate). Die Refinanzierungskosten für Unternehmen und Hauskäufer explodieren. Der Housing-Markt friert langsam ein, da sich niemand mehr das Bauen oder Kaufen zu diesen Konditionen leisten kann.

Exkurs: Bullenmarkt für Anleihen

Der letzte große Zinsgipfel war 1981 bei knapp 15,8 %. Der absolute Boden wurde 2020 bei 0,5 % erreicht. Das bedeutet: Ein 39-jähriger Bärenmarkt fallender Zinsen ist offiziell vorbei. Da stellt sich die Frage, ob wir am Beginn eines jahrzehntelangen Aufwärtszyklus der Zinsen stehen? Ist dies der Fall, wären Assets, die in einem solchen Umfeld realen Wert halten, harte Assets wie Gold, Silber, Rohstoffe und möglicherweise Bitcoin.

Uneinigkeit in Washington um den Iran-Krieg

Es ist leicht, den Konflikt im Nahen Osten zwischen Quartalsberichten und politischen Gipfeln zu vergessen – aber die Realität holt uns ein. Die strategisch kritische Straße von Hormuz bleibt weiterhin geschlossen. Der Krieg zieht sich nun schon so lange hin, dass der daraus resultierende Energieschock keineswegs mehr als vorübergehend eingestuft werden kann. Er hat sich tief in den Kern der Weltwirtschaft gefressen: Die Reallöhne sind zum ersten Mal seit drei Jahren ins Negative gedreht.

Auf politischer Ebene in den USA braut sich jetzt massiver Widerstand zusammen. In einer historischen 50-47 Abstimmung hat der US-Senat die Iran War Powers Resolution vorangetrieben. Nach sieben gescheiterten Anläufen hat der Senat damit das erste Mal die parteiübergreifende Kraft gefunden, um Trumps militärischem Vorgehen im Iran ohne explizite Kongress-Zustimmung rechtliche Fesseln anzulegen.

Ausschlaggebend war unter anderem, dass während das Pentagon die offiziellen Kosten mit 29 Milliarden Dollar beziffert, unabhängige Ökonomen die tatsächliche Belastung der US-Steuerzahler bereits im Bereich von fast 1 Billion Dollar schätzen - während Irans Raketenstellungen weiterhin zu 90 % einsatzbereit sind.

Da die Fronten verhärtet sind und Trump mit einem Veto droht, gibt es keinerlei Anzeichen für eine kurzfristige diplomatische Lösung im Iran. Für den Markt bedeutet das: Der Ölpreis bleibt erhöht. Wenn die monatliche Inflation (CPI) bei den aktuellen +0,4 % im Monat verharrt, steuern die USA bis zu den Midterms im November auf eine jährliche Inflationsrate von +5,2 % zu.

Das wirft auch ein nüchternes Licht auf das jüngste Treffen zwischen Trump und Chinas Präsident Xi Jinping. Die verkündeten Deals – wie Agrarkäufe über 17 Milliarden Dollar oder Flugzeug-Bestellungen von Boeing – waren reine Schaufensterpolitik für die Medien. Strukturell hat sich nichts bewegt. Die USA haben China nicht einmal um Unterstützung im Iran-Konflikt gebeten und beim Thema Taiwan gab es harte Warnungen aus Peking. An den geopolitischen Problemen und dem “Energieschock” änderte dieses Treffen absolut nichts.

AI-Produktivität: NBER-Zahlen bestätigen Verdacht

In meinem letzten Bericht habe ich meine Meinung bezüglich dem wirklichen Impact von AI beim Endnutzer (Firmen und Retail) geäußert. Nun bestätigt eine Umfrage des NBER (National Bureau of Economic Research) meine Skepsis der letzten Wochen:

89 % der Unternehmensführer geben an, dass die großflächige Einführung von KI die Arbeitsproduktivität in ihren Unternehmen bisher NICHT verbessert hat.

Zwar sind die Prognosen für die kommenden 3 Jahre etwas positiver, jedoch im Vergleich zu den getätigten Ausgaben für die AI-Infrastruktur scheint der reale Ertrag im operativen Geschäft bisher auszubleiben. Wenn die anstehenden Quartalsberichte der Tech-Firmen zeigen, dass die Margen durch die hohen AI-Kosten aufgefressen werden, ohne dass die Effizienz steigt, bricht möglicherweise das Fundament des gesamten Aktienmarktes zusammen.

Bitcoin: Hohe ETF-Abflüsse

Kommen wir zu Bitcoin. Die vergangene Woche hat meine Warnungen der letzten Reports auf schmerzhafte Weise bestätigt: Der jüngste Ausbruch wurde rein durch Hebel und Short-Covering getrieben, nicht durch nachhaltige Spot-Nachfrage.

Kurzzeitig schoss BTC über die $82k-Marke – nur um danach stark abzuverkaufen und das Wochenende unter $78k zu schließen. Dieser Rückgang hat über 657 Millionen Dollar an Liquidationen ausgelöst.

Das institutionelle Narrativ bröckelt massiv:

• ETF-Kapitulation: Die Bitcoin Spot ETFs verzeichneten einen massiven Abfluss von 1 Milliarde USD in nur einer Woche. Dies beendet eine sechswöchige Serie von Zuflüssen. Bei den Ethereum ETFs flossen $255 Millionen ab

• Institutionelle Gewinn-Mitnahmen: Die On-Chain-Daten von Glassnode zeigen eindeutig, dass Institutionen die Stärke genutzt haben, um Gewinne zu realisieren und Bestände abzubauen (Quelle: Coindesk)

Bezüglich des Clarity Acts: Ja, dass der Entwurf das Senate Banking Committee mit 15-9 passiert hat, ist ein Fortschritt. Aber das Gesetz ist meilenweit davon entfernt, rechtskräftig zu sein. Es steht nun die langwierige Abstimmung im Senatsplenum an. Der Markt hat das begriffen und die Nachricht als klassisches Sell the News abverkauft.

Mein Fazit & Portfolio Management

Bitcoin hat den Aufwärtstrend am 200-Tage-Durchschnitt bei $82,2k vorerst beendet. Wir sind (zum Zeitpunkt des Schreibens) unter der Kostenbasis der Short-Term Holder ($78,4k).

Die Preis-Level, auf die ich jetzt extrem genau schaue:

• $78,4k: STH-Kostenbasis (Aktuell verloren)

• $75,8k: Der 50-Tage-Durchschnitt (50 MA)

Mein Fazit: Sollten wir die Marke von $75k nach unten durchbrechen, erwarte ich eine schnelle Abwärtskaskade in die mittleren $60k. Dies wird die frühen Dip-Käufer, die bei $85k eingestiegen sind, möglicherweise zum Verkaufen bewegen und gleichzeitig einige Long-Positionen aus dem Markt nehmen.

Die FED-Futures preisen Zinssenkungen für 2026 komplett aus und sehen mittlerweile eine 39,5% - 56,7% Chance für eine Zinserhöhung zwischen Oktober bis Dezember.

Das makroökonomische Umfeld ist Gift für Risiko-Assets. An meinen Positionen verändere ich nichts, mein Cash bleibt auf der Seitenlinie. Neu einzusteigen ist aktuell reines Glücksspiel.

nach einer spannenden letzten Woche und trotz vermutlich massiver Käufe durch Michael Saylor hat Bitcoin zum Wochenende die psychologisch wichtige Marke von 80.000 USD nach unten durchbrochen. Ausgelöst wurde dies unter anderem durch eine allgemeine Schwäche am Aktienmarkt am Freitag. Zum Zeitpunkt, an dem ich dies schreibe, sind wir zudem unter die Kostenbasis der Short-Term Holder (STH) und ETF-Besitzer gesunken.

Was bedeutet das nun für uns? In meinem letzten Makro-Update habe ich bereits beschrieben, dass ich die aktuelle Situation an den Märkten für überhitzt halte. Der Rücksetzer vom Freitag hat den Kryptomarkt direkt mit nach unten gezogen – und die Daten sprechen eine deutliche Sprache.

Bröckelt der Saylor-Schild?

Es ist bemerkenswert: Michael Saylor hat in der letzten Woche rund 2 Milliarden USD in Bitcoin investiert. Normalerweise sollte eine solche Kaufkraft den Markt stützen oder sogar nach oben treiben. Doch die Realität sieht anders aus: Der Preis hat seitdem abverkauft. Wenn selbst solche Käufe den Verkaufsdruck nicht mehr kompensieren können, deutet das auf eine tieferliegende Schwäche hin.

Parallel dazu sehen wir bei den ETFs ein ernüchterndes Bild: An fünf der letzten sieben Handelstage gab es Netto-Outflows. Das Momentum der institutionellen Käufer scheint vorerst erschöpft zu sein.

Wenn Diamond Hands unfreiwillig entstehen

Aktuell kursieren auf X viele Charts, die zeigen, dass die Anzahl der Long-Term Holder (LTH) stark ansteigt. Viele interpretieren das als extrem bullisches Signal. Ich sehe das anders.

Man muss verstehen, wie diese Kohorte definiert ist: Eine Adresse gilt als LTH, sobald sie ihre Bitcoin länger als 155 Tage hält. Wenn wir nun einen Anstieg der LTHs sehen, ist das ein rein retrospektiver Effekt. Es handelt sich dabei um die Käufer, die den ersten großen Dip im Bereich von 85k–87k gekauft haben.

Die Realität ist jedoch, dass diese Käufer nun per Definition Long-Term Holder sind. Und sie sitzen massiv im Minus.

• Historisch betrachtet sehen wir dieses Muster oft: Viele Personen kaufen nahe dem ATH. Wenn der Preis danach in einen Bärenmarkt übergeht, steigt die Anzahl der Holder weiter an – nicht aus Überzeugung, sondern weil sie auf ihren Verlusten sitzen und warten, bis sie irgendwann den Break-even-Punkt erreichen.

• Oft dauerte es in der Vergangenheit Jahre, bis diese Positionen wieder über Wasser waren.

Für mich ist der Anstieg der LTHs aktuell also kein Zeichen von Stärke, sondern die Bestätigung, dass viele Anleger zu früh den Dip gekauft haben. Der Schmerz im Markt könnte erst dann enden, wenn auch diese Hände anfangen zu kapitulieren.

Funding Rates und fehlendes Spot-Interesse

Durch den Anstieg der vergangenen Wochen sind wir im Verhältnis von realisierten Gewinnen zu Verlusten wieder kurzzeitig in den positiven Bereich gerutscht. Das ist ein typisches Merkmal einer Bärenmarktrallye, wie wir sie in der Geschichte schon oft gesehen haben.

Auch die Funding Rates sind wieder leicht ins Positive gedreht. Das bedeutet, es gibt aktuell mehr Long- als Short-Positionen. Ein Großteil der Shorts wurde durch den jüngsten Anstieg aus dem Markt gespült; was ironischerweise einer der Hauptgründe für den Preiszuwachs war (Short Squeeze). Die aktuelle, eher vorsichtige Grundhaltung spiegelt die ungewisse makroökonomische Lage wider.

Was mir jedoch am meisten Sorgen bereitet: Das Spot-Interesse sinkt kontinuierlich. Ohne echte Nachfrage am Spot-Markt fehlt dem Markt das Fundament für einen nachhaltigen Aufwärtstrend.

Saisonalität: Sell in May und der Juni-Fluch

Wir gehen nun in eine Zeit, in der die Aktienmärkte statistisch gesehen schwächer performen. Besonders in sogenannten Midterm-Jahren verlaufen die Monate zwischen Mai und Oktober überwiegend negativ.

Viel spezifischer für uns ist jedoch der Blick auf den Juni. Statistisch gesehen ist der Juni der zweitschlechteste Monat für die Bitcoin-Performance. In Bärenmärkten ist er sogar mit Abstand der Monat mit dem heftigsten Downtrend – im Durchschnitt verliert Bitcoin hier 20,5 %.

Sollte sich dieses Muster wiederholen, steht uns ein sehr ungemütlicher Sommer bevor. Dies habe ich ja bereits mehrfach betont.

Mein Fazit & Portfolio Management

An meinen Positionen habe ich nichts verändert. Mein Dry Powder bleibt trocken. Für Personen, die aktuell noch nicht im Markt investiert sind – egal ob Long oder Short – ist dies kein Zeitpunkt zum Einstieg. Die Marktphase ist zu ungewiss, die Signale zu widersprüchlich.

Geduld ist die wichtigste Währung im aktuellen Umfeld. Wir warten darauf, dass der Markt uns eine klarere Richtung vorgibt, anstatt den ganzen Influencern auf Social Media hinterherzulaufen.

Auch wenn viele Stimmen behaupten, diesmal sei alles anders, bin ich mir da nicht ganz so sicher. Aufgrund vieler Gespräche die letzten Tage gehe ich heute tiefer in das Thema AI und Märkte ein. Ich gebe euch meine Einschätzung, wo wir stehen und was das für Bitcoin bedeutet. Los geht’s.

Diesmal ist es anders - oder doch nicht?

In den letzten Wochen kocht das Thema „Blase wie bei Dotcom“ immer wieder hoch. Auf der anderen Seite hört man das Gegenteil: „Diesmal ist es nicht zu vergleichen.“ Bei solchen Gesprächen muss man immer prüfen: Ist die Person bereits voll investiert oder steht sie an der Seitenlinie? Jeder möchte natürlich recht haben.

Die aktuelle Mehrheitsthese lautet: AI-Unternehmen sind zwar teuer, aber sie haben hohe Einnahmen, positive Wachstumsprognosen und werden von extrem profitablen Unternehmen (Amazon, Microsoft, Google etc.) finanziert. Das Narrativ für 1999 hingegen besagt, damals sei alles nur heiße Luft ohne Substanz gewesen (Stichwort: Pets.com).

Die Realität ist: Auch in der Dotcom-Ära pumpten profitable Großkonzerne wie die Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone oder Verizon (nach dem Telecommunications Act von 1996) hunderte Milliarden in die Infrastruktur. Das waren keine Firmen ohne Substanz. Das Ergebnis war eine massive Überkapazität an Glasfaser und Breitband. Nach dem Crash (2000–2002) gab es Dutzende Pleiten und Wertverluste von über 2 Billionen USD bei Telecom-Aktien. Die Infrastruktur blieb nützlich, aber die Kurse erholten sich teilweise nie wieder auf dieses Niveau.

Sehen wir bei AI ein ähnliches Spiel? Niemand bezweifelt den Nutzen von AI – die Frage ist: Zu welchem Preis?

Der Shiller-PE steht heute bei 42,08. Zum Vergleich: Der absolute Peak im Jahr 1999 lag bei 44,19, bevor der Markt kollabierte.

Wir stehen also quasi an der Türschwelle des Dotcom-Maximums. Berkshire Hathaway sitzt nicht ohne Grund auf 397 Milliarden Dollar Cash – eine Cash-Quote, die sie fast identisch vor den Crashes 2000 und 2008 hielten. Die Bullen belächeln Buffet derzeit und werfen ihm vor zu alt zu sein und die neue Realität nicht zu verstehen. Solche Aussagen sind meines Erachtens erste Zeichen einer Blase. Mag Buffet zu früh risk-off gegangen sein? Stand jetzt ja. Nur man erkennt bereits erste zyklische Warnsignale.

Zirkuläre KI-Ökonomie

Wir müssen über die größte Illusion der aktuellen Marktphase sprechen: Die angebliche KI-Nachfrage. Wenn wir die Quartalsberichte von Microsoft, Google und Amazon lesen, sehen wir explodierende Cloud-Umsätze. Aber was, wenn diese Nachfrage gar nicht von echten Kunden kommt?

Hinter den glänzenden Fassaden der Hyperscaler verbirgt sich ein zirkuläres Finanzierungssystem, das in der Technologiegeschichte seinesgleichen sucht. Die Mechanik ist so simpel wie erschreckend:

1. Investition: Google, Amazon und Microsoft haben bisher rund 78 Milliarden USD direkt in OpenAI und Anthropic gesteckt

2. Rückfluss: Diese wiederum nehmen fast das gesamte Kapital und überweisen es postwendend zurück an AWS, Azure und Google Cloud, um die Rechenleistung für ihr Training zu bezahlen

3. Ergebnis: Die Hyperscaler verbuchen diese Zahlungen als “KI-Umsatzwachstum”, was wiederum ihre Aktienkurse treibt

Es ist eine teure Art, Umsätze zu buchen, die auf der eigenen Bilanz beginnen – und enden.

Nackte Zahlen vs. Narrativ

Der Markt ist extrem intransparent (viele NDA-Deals), daher gibt es keine harten Drittquellen für eine exakte Einordnung wie hoch die wirkliche Nachfrage nach AI-Compute ist. Es gibt wenig öffentliche Meldungen über große, unabhängige GPU-Deals anderer Firmen außerhalb der Hyperscaler. Das ist schon ein wenig verwundernswert. Dazu kommen Berichte, dass Firmen die offiziell kaufen, die GPUs nur zu 5% benutzen (Businessinsider).

Schaltet man diesen Kreislauf und die Quersubventionen aus, bleibt erschreckend wenig übrig. Während man uns eine 500-Milliarden-Dollar-Story verkauft, liegt die echte, externe Nachfrage laut aktuellen Analysen eher im Bereich von 500 Millionen USD.

Gleichzeitig reduzieren Firmen wie Coinbase und Microsoft Mitarbeiter mit der Begründung „AI“. Hier stellt sich die Frage: Sind die Gewinne durch KI-Effizienz gestiegen oder schlicht durch massive Lohnkostensenkungen? Das wird die Realität in den nächsten Monaten zeigen.

Echte Nachfrage benötigt keine Firmen, die gleichzeitig ihre eigenen Investoren und einzigen Kunden sind. Was wir hier sehen, ist der teuerste Kreislauf der Geschichte. Daraus ergeben sich zwei Fragen:

1. Wie viel “Plumbing” die kann die FED noch betreiben, bevor die Realität zuschlägt?

2. Kann der Endnutzer überhaupt genug Umsatz generieren, um dieses Karussell am Laufen zu halten?

Besonders der zweite Punkt führt mich zu einer weiteren Frage:

Wer profitiert vom Boom?

Eine Frage die ich mir immer wieder stelle. Schauen wir uns doch einfach mal den Aktienmarkt an. Wir haben einerseits die Investoren im Markt (Wall St.) und die Main Street, also den sogenannten Retail Consumer.

Das Sentiment dieses Konsumenten ist aktuell so niedrig wie noch nie. Die wahrgenommene Realität ist: Die persönlichen Kosten werden immer höher durch Inflation, erhöhte Preise an der Tankstelle, Wohnen etc. Dies führt zu einer schlechten Stimmung der Main Street. Würde man die oberen 10% der Bevölkerung fragen, hätte man ein anderes Bild, da diese knapp 90% der Aktien halten und enorm von diesem Boom profitieren.

Nun Trump ist angetreten um der Main Street zu helfen - davon ist aktuell nicht viel zu sehen, da diese aktuell massiv in Bedrängnis geraten.

Ist alles andere in Vergessenheit geraten?

Die Welt hat zudem andere Sorgen: Der Iran-Krieg dauert an, die Straße von Hormuz bleibt geschlossen und ein Deal ist nicht in Sicht. Die Ölpreise bleiben hoch, was die Inflation strukturell antreibt. Wenn es der Main Street immer schlechter geht: Wer soll dann langfristig die ganzen Produkte kaufen, die die Wall Street so teuer bewertet?

Hype Cycle

Schaut man sich den Gartner Hype Cycle für 2025 (mir liegt kein aktuellerer vor) an, sitzt AI am “Peak of Inflated Expectations” (Gipfel der übersteigerten Erwartungen). Das bedeutet: Die Begeisterung hat ihren Zenit erreicht, während die tatsächliche Produktivität noch weit hinterherhinkt. Historisch folgt darauf das “Tal der Enttäuschungen”, in dem die Bewertungen massiv korrigieren, bis die Technologie realen, profitablen Nutzen stiftet.

2026 IP Exits

Während die Schlagzeilen die Rekordbewertungen von SpaceX, Anthropic und OpenAI feiern, braut sich unter der Oberfläche ein gefährliches Liquiditäts-Dilemma zusammen. Was als Wiederbelebung des IPO-Marktes verkauft wird, könnte sich als massiver Entzug von Marktliquidität entpuppen – mit weitreichenden Folgen für den Markt. Wieso ist das so?

1. Nur Liquidität zählt

Venture Capital und Private Equity stehen vor einem massiven Rückzahlungsdruck. Nach McKinsey (Global Private Markets Report) ist die DPI-Rate (Distribution to Paid-In Capital) auf historische Tiefstände gefallen (ca. 6 % gegenüber dem langjährigen Schnitt von 16 %).

Das bedeutet, dass institutionelle LPs (Pensionskassen, Stiftungen) auf jahrelangen Buchgewinnen sitzen, aber ihnen das Cash fehlt. Daraus folgt, dass Fondsmanager diese IPOs nutzen müssen, um Liquidität zu schaffen – koste es, was es wolle. Dies erzeugt einen unnatürlichen Verkaufsdruck unmittelbar nach den Lock-up-Fristen.

2. Inflation & Energie als Liquiditätskiller

Gleichzeitig schwindet das Kapital derer, die diese Anteile am öffentlichen Markt kaufen sollen: Retail.

Wie oben bereits erwähnt führen die anhaltende Inflation und die geopolitischen Spannungen dazu, dass das verfügbare Kapital für spekulative Wetten durch die Zinsen und gestiegene Lebenshaltungskosten drastisch reduziert ist. Wenn SpaceX plant, bis zu 30 % des IPOs an Retail zu vergeben (Global Banking & Finance), stellt sich die Frage: Woher soll das Geld kommen?

3. Fass ohne Boden für Kapital

Die schiere Größe der anstehenden Börsengänge droht dem restlichen Markt den Sauerstoff (Liquidität)zu entziehen. Man kann von einem antizipierten Fundraising-Volumen von über $200 Mrd. allein durch die drei Unternehmen SpaceX, Anthropic & OpenAI ausgehen (Q1 2026 PitchBook-NVCA Venture Monitor):

• SpaceX (Juni 2026): Bewertung $1,75 Bio. / Ziel: $75 Mrd.

• Anthropic (Oktober 2026): Bewertung ca. $900 Mrd. / Ziel: $30 Mrd.

• OpenAI (Q4 2026 - Q1 2027): Bewertung ca. $1,0 Bio. / Ziel: $100 Mrd.

Wir stehen vor einer massiven Multiple Compression. Wenn Billionen-Bewertungen auf eine erschöpfte Retail-Basis treffen und LPs gleichzeitig massiv liquidieren, droht eine Korrektur und eine Normalisierung der KGV-Multiples im gesamten S&P 500.

Anstatt einer neuen Rallye könnten diese IPOs den “notwendigen” Reset einleiten, bei dem die Bewertungen wieder auf das Niveau der real verfügbaren Liquidität zurückfallen. Erst nach diesem Drawdown wird der Markt bereit für den nächsten echten Zyklus sein.

Wie oben bereits einmal erwähnt: Denkst du, dass die FED in diesem Szenario durch Zinssenkungen intervenieren wird, um die IPO-Liquidität zu stützen, oder wird sie die Korrektur zulassen und eine weitere Inflationsausbreitung riskieren?

Bitcoin vs. NASDAQ

Interessant wird es bei Bitcoin. Während wir jahrelang eine positive Korrelation zur NASDAQ hatten, sehen wir seit November 2025 eine starke Abnahme. Aktuell liegen wir bei einer Korrelation von -0,42. Das bedeutet, Bitcoin trendet entgegen der NASDAQ – ein Verhalten, das wir oft in Bärenmärkten sehen.

Sollte die KI-Blase wackeln, ist mit einem starken Outflow aus dem Markt zu rechnen, da mittlerweile viel institutionelles Kapital über ETFs investiert ist. Bitcoin würde dann vermutlich wieder in die “korrekte” (positive) Korrelation springen und mit korrigieren.

Warum hielt sich BTC zuletzt stabil?

1. Langfristige Halter (LTHs) haben den Dip im Februar gekauft

2. MicroStrategy hat über 7,5 Mrd. USD investiert

3. Massive Short-Liquidationen haben den Preis künstlich gestützt

Aktuell sehen wir bei $80k starken Verkaufsdruck. Viele “Break-even”-Investoren wollen raus. Zudem sind die CPI-Zahlen mit 3,8 % höher als erwartet, was Zinssenkungen der Fed für 2026 endgültig vom Tisch wischt.

Bitcoin muss sich jetzt beweisen. Haben wir den klassischen 4-Jahres-Zyklus verlassen? Falls ja, werden wir das in den nächsten Wochen sehen. Ich sehe das in den Daten bisher nicht.

Portfolio Management

Das Gebot der Stunde bleibt: Geduld. Während der Retail sich im Call-Optionen-Rausch befindet (9 Millionen Kontrakte im 5-Tage-Schnitt!), bereitet sich das Smart Money auf den Exit vor.

Bear-Markets enden in Pessimismus, aber Bull-Markets sterben an Euphorie

Was heißt das für mich?

Ich persönlich habe meine Exposure im S&P 500 extrem reduziert – Gewinne realisieren hat noch niemandem geschadet. Mit dem Großteil (nicht mit allem) stehe ich an der Seitenlinie. Neu einzusteigen halte ich auf diesem Niveau für hochriskant.

Derivativer Rausch: Wenn die Absicherung fehlt

Was wir derzeit am Aktienmarkt sehen, ist ein spekulativer Anstieg, der zunehmend instabil wird. Ein Blick auf die Optionsmärkte zeigt Extremwerte:

• Call-Optionen-Anteil: Der prozentuale Anteil von SPX-Calls am gesamten Optionsvolumen liegt aktuell bei fast 60 % – der höchste Wert seit Jahren

• Nominalwert: Der absolute Nominalwert von SPX-Calls erreichte einen Rekord von 2,6 Billionen US-Dollar an einem einzigen Tag

Es scheint so, als ob kaum jemand genug im Markt war, als diese Rallye begann. Jetzt werden Investoren, die untergewichtet oder faktisch short waren, gezwungen, Call-Optionen zu kaufen, um aufzuholen. Das treibt extreme, einseitige Aufwärtsbewegungen. Zudem generierten gehebelte ETF-Rebalancing-Flows im letzten Monat erzwungene Aktienkäufe im Wert von über +118 Milliarden US-Dollar (allein ~20 Milliarden Dollar an einem einzigen Tag).

Die Positionierung unter dieser Rallye wird gefährlich instabil. Wenn niemand mehr eine Absicherung nach unten (Downside Protection) besitzt und alle nur noch der Upside hinterherjagen. Es sieht ein wenig nach einem Gamma-Squeeze-Effekt durch Market-Maker-Hedging aus. Doch was kommt als Nächstes? Ein “Reverse to the Mean” ist hier meiner Meinung überfällig. Muss das sofort passieren? Nicht zwingend, die “Musik” kann noch ein wenig länger spielen bevor die Tanzfläche geleert wird. Ein Grund ist, dass wir im Gegensatz zur Dotcom-Blase (die derzeit extrem häufig zitiert wird) echten Umsatz hinter den Werten sehen.

KI-Hype: Die Suche nach dem echten Umsatz

Solange Microsoft, Meta, Google und Amazon weiter Milliarden in die KI-Infrastruktur (Capex) investieren und reale Bestellungen eingehen, ist es nicht nur Hype. Aber die ehrliche Antwort liegt dazwischen.

Ich stelle mir die Frage: Wird KI wirklich ein Produkt sein, mit dem die Hersteller/Anbieter massiv Geld verdienen, das sie durch Abonnements an Enduser umlegen können? Oder werden die wahren Gewinner die “AI-Lebensraum”-Anbieter sein wie Google, Apple oder Amazon? Dies ist eine spannende Frage vor allem im Hinblick auf die anstehenden IPOs von Antropic, OpenAI und SpaceX/xAI. Hier könnten die extremen Bewertungen ggf. die Wahrheit finden.

Die Extreme Marktkonzentration

Wir haben eine Marktkonzentration innerhalb des S&P 500, wie es sie noch nie gab. Die Top 10 S&P 500 Aktien haben seit den Tiefstständen am 30. März rund ~69 % der Indexgewinne getrieben. Die Top 5 allein (Google, Nvidia, Amazon, etc.) waren für mehr als DIE HÄLFTE der S&P 500 Performance verantwortlich. Die Roadmap ist klar: Phase 1 (Semis: NVDA, AMD) ist gelaufen. Phase 2 (Memory: MU, WDC) läuft jetzt.

Die Relative Stärke: Equal Weight > S&P 500

Wer jetzt noch nicht im Markt ist und investieren will, ist in diesem Umfeld mit dem Equal Weight S&P 500 besser als der Standard S&P 500 bedient, da man sonst extrem heavy tech-exponiert ist. Solange Hyperscaler ihre Capex-Pläne nicht kürzen, läuft die Story allerdings weiter. Der Tag, an dem Microsoft, Meta & Co. anfangen, ihre AI-Investments zurückzufahren, wird sehr laut - dieser Tag ist jedoch nicht heute.

Picks-and-Shovels: Die Helium-Falle

Memory (Speicherchips) ist der echte Picks-and-Shovels-Trade dieser KI-Welle, weil jeder Nvidia-Chip einen HBM-Stack (High Bandwidth Memory) benötigt. In dieser Phase gehen “langweilige” Zulieferer in die Stratosphäre – ein klassisches Spätzyklus-Verhalten. Doch genau hier lauert ein Risiko, das der Markt meiner Meinung aktuell ignoriert: Helium.

Memory-Herstellung benötigt Helium. 75 % des globalen Heliums werden in zwei Ländern produziert: USA (42 %) und Katar (33 %). Letzteres kann seit dem Iran-Konflikt praktisch nicht mehr liefern. Ein Drittel der globalen Versorgung ist weg.

Dies trifft vor allem den asiatischen Markt (Samsung bezieht fast 2/3 seines Heliums aus Katar). Die Vorräte der Chipproduzenten reichen noch ca. 3-6 Monate. Wenn wir gegen August-Oktober in ein Produktions-Lag laufen, hat die globale Produktion ein Problem. Die Produktion wird jetzt bereits teilweise reduziert - was die Preise kurzfristig natürlich noch weiter nach oben bringt und NOCH sind die Unternehmen bereit diese zu bezahlen.

Fed-Update

Ein wichtiger FED-Termin steht am 15. Mai an - die Amtszeit von Jerome Powell endet und Kevin Warsh übernimmt. Ich bin gespannt ob sich unter seiner Führung die Haltung der FED ändert. Bisher preist der Markt ein, dass die Zinsen in diesem Jahr unverändert bleiben. Eine Zinserhöhung ist aktuell keine Diskussion, aber eine Zinssenkung ist für 2026 mehr als unwahrscheinlich.

Der US Clarity Act: Endlich Rechtssicherheit?

Am 14. Mai wird in den USA über den Clarity Act entschieden. Dies ist ein entscheidender Moment, auf den die Industrie seit Jahren wartet. Der Act bringt die dringend benötigte regulatorische Klarheit, indem er klare Definitionen festlegt.

• Commodity vs. Security: Der Act definiert “mature blockchains” als die rechtliche Trennlinie. Ein Token, der dezentral genug ist, fällt unter Commodity. Alles andere wird als Security eingestuft. Damit endet das dreijährige Howey-Test-Theater, und Gesetzestexte ersetzen unsichere Interpretationen. Dies ist genau die Rechtssicherheit, auf die jeder Pension-Fund und jeder Sovereign Wealth Fund seit 2022 wartet, um Kapital in den Sektor investieren zu können.

• Schutz für Entwickler: §1960 schützt Software-Entwickler vor Money-Laundering-Liability. Dies gilt für Wallets, DEXs und Browser-Extensions. Dadurch könnte die Abwanderung von Entwicklern aus den USA aufgrund von Rechtsunsicherheit gestoppt werden.

• Stablecoin-Kompromiss: Beim Thema Zinsen auf Stablecoins hat die Banken-Lobby formal gewonnen: Zinsen auf Stablecoins ist verboten. Die American Bankers Association (ABA) wird das als Sieg verkaufen. Substantiell sieht es jedoch anders aus: Zinsen auf Stablecoins sind weiterhin vorhanden, nur werden diese nun als Rewards für die Nutzung (Haltedauer) berechnet. Wenn man es so will “Zinsen 2.0”. Die Banken bekommen ihre Schlagzeile, aber der Mechanismus bleibt bei der Industrie.

Die große Frage ist nun: Der Act wurde schon bei Antritt der Präsidentschaft versprochen und sollte bereits seit über einem Jahr stehen. Bekommen wir hier nun ein “sell the news”-Event, oder fangen die großen Fonds nun wirklich an, substantiell in Bitcoin zu investieren?

Bitcoin: Ein Rausch der Spekulatoren

Kommen wir zu Bitcoin. Die ETFs sind an ATHs, aber BTC ist noch weit entfernt. Die Positionierung im Perps-Markt war (und ist) extrem short, was zu einem signifikanten Spike bei den Short-Liquidationen führte. Das trieb BTC um 20 % nach oben.

Das deutet darauf hin, dass die aktuelle Rallye weitgehend spekulativ getrieben ist. Um das zu bestätigen, müssen wir auf die Spotmärkte schauen.

• Spot-Volumen: Das Spot-Volumen über zentralisierte Börsen komprimiert sich weiter nach unten – genau wie in den vergangenen Bärenmärkten, in denen es erst viel später im Jahr anstieg

• Onchain-Aktivität: Nutzeraktivität ist rückläufig. Im DeFi-Bereich sehen wir gedämpfte DEX-Volumina und Lending-Aktivität

Es gibt derzeit keine neuen Investoren in Krypto; die KI-Aktien performen viel zu gut im Vergleich. Solange wir keine durchgehende Stärke in den Spot-Daten sehen, bleibt die aktuelle Bewegung für mich fragwürdig.

Betrachtet man das Verhältnis zwischen den Adressen die im Profit sind und denen, die im Verlust stehen, hat sich durch den Anstieg das Blatt klar zugunsten der Profite gewendet, womit nun knapp 77% aller Adressen eine positive Bilanz haben. Vergleichen wir das nun mit vergangenen Bärenmärkten, sehen wir, dass zum Tiefpunkt das Verhältnis bei knapp 50:50 gestanden hat. Davon ausgehen, haben wir noch einen Weg zu gehen.

Kritische Zonen und Strategie

Kritische Zonen, die ich im Auge behalten:

1. $79k: Short-Term Holder + ETF Holder Kostenbasis

2. $85k-$87k: Die größte Kohorte der “Dip-Käufer” liegt hier. Spätestens hier würde ich mit einer sehr starken Reaktion rechnen

Keine Änderungen in dieser Woche. Meine defensive Haltung bleibt bestehen. Auch wenn diese dreimonatige Rallye die längste Bärenmarkt-Rallye der letzten zwei Zyklen ist, halte ich es für wahrscheinlich, dass Bitcoin den Boden noch nicht gesehen hat und in die Range von $50k - $60k fällt.

Ich kann mir ein Szenario vorstellen, in dem Bitcoin um die $85.000 herum handelt (hier liegt viel Liquidität), bevor er zurück auf $60k fällt (~30 % Korrektur). Es wäre auch eine nette Möglichkeit, sowohl die Bullen als auch die Bären in die Falle zu locken.

The week ended up being flat, and in terms of price action, we didn’t see much movement in the crypto space. Interestingly, Michael Saylor did not buy last week. This raises a pressing question: if Saylor isn’t buying, are we losing the fuel for any further upside?

Meanwhile, it was another record-breaking week for the NASDAQ and S&P 500, fueled by staggering earnings from AI-heavy businesses. Google, in particular, posted record numbers, leading to a 9% stock surge following their financial reportings. So, where are we heading now? While the stock market celebrates, Bitcoin feels increasingly heavy. Let’s look under the hood to see why this divergence is growing.

Bitcoin: A Squeeze Without Follow-Through

With no support from MicroStrategy’s purchases this week, Bitcoin has remained largely stagnant. This positioning resulted in the 3rd most short liquidations over a 1-week period across the last two bear markets.

Normally, this would be a bullish trigger. Short liquidations often lead to short squeezes, where prices rise reflexively as exchanges are forced to buy back positions.

Despite this squeeze and the fact that MicroStrategy deployed $2.3b into BTC over the previous weeks, price still hasn’t been able to push into the $80k – $84k resistance range.

• Volume: Spot volume remains at exceptionally low levels

• ETF Flows: Inflows have failed to ramp up and remain muted compared to previous cycles

Given that the Fear & Greed Index is at its highest level in three months, it is alarming that BTC hasn’t broken higher. The lack of “follow-on” bulls suggests this rally is on borrowed time. If you believe, as I do, that we have not yet hit the macro low, this derivatives-driven action is a bearish signal, not a bullish one.

In terms of Strategy, I am closely observing their actions over the next weeks and what impact they keep having on the market.

Stocks: Climbing the Worry Wall

Why are stocks still surging while crypto stalls? The setup for traditional markets is a paradox of high risks and high earnings.

The Macro Backdrop:

• Energy Crisis: WTI is hovering near $102, with Brent between $108–$118. Driven by the ongoing Iran conflict and risks in the Strait of Hormuz, prices are up 75% YoY

• Sticky Inflation: The March CPI came in at 3.3% YoY, driven almost entirely by energy (+12.5%)

• FED Hardline: Markets are now pricing in practically zero rate cuts for 2026. The FED is waiting for energy-driven effects to cool before even considering a pivot

  

Why the New Highs in S&P and NASDAQ?

The Earnings Power is currently winning the tug-of-war against macro headwinds. Q1 results showed a blended earnings growth of ca. 27%. Furthermore, the US is now a net exporter of energy, making the S&P 500 more resilient to oil shocks than in previous decades. We are seeing a rotation into value and energy, while Big Tech continues to ride the AI Capex wave. However, it will be interesting how earning in Q2 & Q3 will end up, when the reality of war impacts might hit the earnings. Additionally, looking at the performance of the S&P 500 - the rapid decrease of oil value actually brought down the stock market and not it’s increase. Something to take a look at.

The RMP Cliff: A Temporary Liquidity Buffer?

While Global Liquidity (according to GLI) appears to be rolling over, the FED has added $172b to its balance sheet since December. This was driven by the “RMP purchases” (Reserve Management Purchases) program.

This program boosted banking-sector liquidity and dampened bond volatility, effectively pushing the markets. The Nasdaq is up 20% over the last month alone. However, the FED guided that these RMP purchases were temporary, intended to offset seasonal fluctuations like tax day.

Now that the April 15th tax deadline has passed, this liquidity buffer is expected to be significantly reduced. We are likely approaching a liquidity cliff just as Kevin Warsh prepares to take office. If this temporary support is removed, the “Worry Wall” might finally become too steep to climb.

Portfolio Management

My thesis remains unchanged: the structural risk points to the downside. We are nearly seven months into this bear market, and I still anticipate one more significant drawdown for BTC to find its true macro floor.

While I am keeping my dry powder ready, I am starting to look closely at specific Altcoins. In the 2022 bear market, assets like ETH bottomed before Bitcoin.

Many Alts are already deeply oversold. While they may not increase in absolute dollar value immediately, they may begin to outperform BTC on a relative basis.

I expect further weakness for BTC in the short term, and I believe BTC dominance will ultimately drop from current levels as the rotation begins.

Another green week is in the books. The stock market continues to notch new highs, and Bitcoin is maintaining its positive momentum. While the conflict in the Middle East is far from over, the markets seem to have priced in a resolution for now.

Despite the recent pump, my core thesis hasn’t shifted. I look at Berkshire Hathaway sitting on a record $382 billion in cash—a move they’ve made twice before: right before the Dotcom bubble burst and just before the 2008 financial crisis. You have to ask yourself: are they right again, or is it truly different this time? While I see the crowd celebrating, I prefer to look under the hood.

Reclaiming the True Market Mean

During the run up this week, we have seen the area around $78.1k as a strong resistance zone (and this is where Bitcoin is sitting at the time of writing). At this level sits the True Market Mean where I expect distribution pressure from underwater investors to cap this relief rally.

The True Market Mean tracks the cost basis of actively transacted supply. Reclaiming this model historically marks a transition from deep bear market conditions toward a more constructive regime. A Breakout of this level represents a significant mean reversion within the ongoing bear market, with the next logical target being the Short-Term Holder (STH) Cost Basis at $80.5k.

However, caution is still warranted. We are seeing mounting sell pressure from investors who accumulated in the $60k–$70k range. As this cohort approaches breakeven, the behavioral incentive to “just get out” begins to weigh on momentum.

The Next Wall: The Short-Term Holder Cost Basis

Having cleared the first hurdle, the market now faces a more formidable test. The Short-Term Holder Cost Basis at $80.1k represents the average acquisition price of investors who purchased within the last 155 days. This group is historically the most price-sensitive in the market.

As price approaches their breakeven level, the supply hit is inevitable. In past bear markets, rallies toward the STH Cost Basis rarely break through on the first try. Instead, price tends to contract back toward the -1 standard deviation lower band (currently near $69.9k) to reset before attempting another breakout. This suggests that while $70k is developing into a mid-term support floor, the $78k–$80.1k zone remains a heavy ceiling.

Where Bear Rallies Exhaust

To understand why this $80k level is so heavy, we look at the Percent of Short-Term Holder Supply in Profit.

When this reading climbs above 0.5, it historically coincides with peak distribution pressure during bear market rallies. We are reaching a point where the concentration of profitable short-term holders becomes sufficient to overwhelm incoming demand. Seizing the opportunity to exit at breakeven is a powerful psychological force. This is the second time in this cycle we’ve seen this structure form, reinforcing its reliability as a local top indicator.

Realized Profit Spikes: The Warning Siren

The structural picture is being confirmed by real-time spending behavior. As we re-test the $80k zone, the 24-hour SMA of Short-Term Holder Realized Profit Volume has spiked above $4M.

Put that in context: every prior spike above $1.5M this year has coincided with a local top. We are currently at nearly three times that threshold. Without a massive, unexpected demand catalyst, a pullback from these levels is more than just likely.

The Anatomy of a Bottom

While the data suggests a local top for Bitcoin, the broader crypto landscape is showing the classic signs of a bear market.

• DeFi Distress: A barrage of hacks and exploits

• The Exit of the Tourists: Spot volumes and open interest are down; the hype is gone

• Negative Funding: Shorts are paying longs, signaling deep skepticism

• The NFT Echo: A tiny comeback in NFTs - often a sign of “echo” speculation before a final wash-out

• Institutional Pivot: Some BTC treasury companies are starting to sell as their models fail to produce the promised returns

• User Growth: Active Addresses are declining

This is exactly what the depths of a bear market look like. Coins are rotating hands. Sellers are becoming exhausted; especially in Alts, where many projects are down 80-90% and flatlining on zero volume.

Near Term: The Squeeze and the Whale

Bitcoin performed its second run to $80k while funding rates are at their most negative levels since April 2023. This created a short squeeze, driving the price into overbought territory on RSI.

While organic ETF flows remain weak (even though they are back positive), MicroStrategy remains the outlier, purchasing another $2.5 billion of Bitcoin this week. The key question remains: Is Saylor’s conviction enough to turn the $80k–$85k resistance into a new support floor?

Macro: The Passing of Time

At this stage of the cycle, macro is actually becoming less important. The air has already been let out of the crypto markets and moved into stocks and AI.

Moving forward, it’s less about waiting for a macro crash and more about the passing of time. I am waiting for a durable catalyst to signal the bottom. I do not see it yet.

No changes this week. I am watching the $80k level with extreme interest. Until we see Bitcoin turn this resistance into support on high volume, I remain patient with my cash. And I prefer to buy in into strength then hope.

Following my last report, we have seen a strong surge of 7.7% in the NASDAQ and up to 5.2% in the S&P 500, leading both to new All-Time Highs. Bitcoin topped out at a 10.8% gain in the same period. Is Everything Fine?

If you look around, there is a sense of massive relief. The common narrative is that we are now free to ride into the sunset of higher highs. Before you buy into that, consider who is telling the story:

• People calling for higher are often heavily invested and talking into their own pockets. This includes Larry Fink (BlackRock) and other institutions that profit from your trading volume

• AI companies & Influencers are screaming that AI will take over everything and displace all jobs in 1–3 years

• The three-week blockage of the Strait of Hormuz is being treated as if it never happened, with the assumption that the economy will simply boom from here

• Michael Saylor has created a system offering investors an 11% yield on Bitcoin, paid out monthly (or even bi-weekly soon)

So why am I still talking bearish when the bulls have seemingly taken over?

Let’s look at the data.

Markets: A Thin Surface

We saw new ATHs in major US ETFs last week, and I must admit: anyone who bought that dip did a great deal. But if you look deeper, the rally is surprisingly narrow. Only 4% of S&P 500 companies actually reached an ATH. Many sectors, particularly SaaS, are still far off their highs.

So, who is carrying the market?

• Financial institutions: Companies like BNY Mellon (BK), Interactive Brokers (IBKR), and Morgan Stanley (MS) are profiting from record trading volumes

• Semi-Tech: Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Western Digital (WDC) are surging because they provide the hardware for AI

The real question: where is the measurable impact of AI for the average person? Ask your neighbors how they are actually making or saving money with AI today. It is easy to fall into the “AI changes everything” trap on social media. While it might be true eventually, for the time being, if it doesn't drive promised revenue, a trillion-dollar chatbot is just an expensive toy. Companies like Anthropic & OpenAI still have to prove their $800b+ value.

NewBird: Does History Rhyme?

AI seems to further push the market. But wasn’t there and interesting story this week? Yes. A shoe company called Allbirds hit the news. Let me give you a small breakdown:

• Allbirds went public in 2021 at a $4b valuation and proceeded to drop 99%. They closed their US stores and sold the brand for roughly $40m

• They renamed themselves to NewBird AI

• The stock rallied 940% in a single day on 800x above normal volume

  

Seeing these movements in the stock market for a company basically renames itself with AI in the name, reminds me of two specific ghosts of the past:

• Dotcom (1999): MIS International rebranded to Cozmos.com and went up 10x.

• Crypto Hype (2017): Long Island Iced Tea rebranded to Long Blockchain Corp and jumped 200%.

We all know what happened next. History doesn't always repeat, but it certainly rhymes.

But let us go deeper in this. What is the underlying data telling us?

The Shiller PE Ratio

When investing into stocks, people often look at the price to earnings ratio (PE). If this value is to high, investors tend to come to the conclusion that the stock is probably overvalued.

Now, if we look at the PE ratio not just for one specific stock, but for the full scope of the S&P500, the Shiller PE ratio provides us a good guidance. It shows the PE ratio based on average inflation-adjusted earning from the previous 10 years.

We are currently sitting at the highest valuation in 26 years. The last time we were here? The peak of the Dotcom bubble.

Ok, now you may say: Yes, however we now have a different fiscal policy and PE is not such a good indicator, especially for tech stocks. So let us look at another data point.

The Buffet Indicator

The Buffett Indicator is a simple valuation metric for the overall stock market. It compares the total value of the stock market to the size of the real economy (Buffett Indicator = (Total Market Capitalization / GDP) × 100). The values you get typically mean:

• Around 70–90%: The market is considered undervalued

• Around 95–110%: Roughly fair valued

• Above 120–150%: Overvalued

• Above 200%: Extremely overvalued. Warren Buffett once described levels approaching this as “playing with fire”

In essence, the indicator shows how expensive the entire stock market is relative to the actual goods and services the economy produces. If market values rise much faster than the underlying economy, it signals potential overheating or a bubble-like condition.

So where are we today? Currently at record-high levels of 232.6%!

Looking at the chart, it was a good indicator for the dotcom bubble as well as for the correction in 2022. Now we are even higher. Does this mean we will go South instantly? Well, it flashes at least a cautionary signal, but it does not predict the exact timing or guarantee an immediate crash.

Bearish Divergence

Another metric I am looking at is the On-Balance Volume (OBV) compared to the S&P 500.

In simple words: OBV = A volume-based score that shows whether money is flowing into or out of a stock over time.

If the OBV is rising, we have more volume which suggests buying pressure. A falling OBV means more volume is coming in on down days, which suggests strong selling pressure.

Typically, a rising market needs rising volume. However, the S&P 500 is making ATHs while the OBV is not. This divergence suggests the rally is weak and isn't being confirmed by actual buying pressure. We saw this in 2022 and early 2025, followed by 27% and 21% corrections, respectively.

A divergence is another warning signal I see. However, this does not predict us a specific timing but it shows us that the probability of a correction is rising.

As you have seen, there a various datapoints hinting that the stock market might not run forever and the warning signals are clear, that we are in a very much heated situation.

But what does this mean for Bitcoin?

Bitcoin

While ETFs are at ATHs, Bitcoin is still down roughly 40% from its own peak. We have seen a 30.5% relief rally since the February lows, which has brought the bulls out of hiding.

Yet, these are probably people who bought the “dip” down from ATH into the mid 80s. A massive amount of volume was traded between $85k–$87k. Many people who bought there are maybe just waiting for a bounce to break even and exit.

For the first time in three years, the 180-day Realized Price change has turned negative. This means older coins are being sold at a loss.

If you look at the ETF flows; yes, we have seen some green days (probably also driven by Michael Saylor), but compared to previous timeframes, the volume is still low.

Additionally, Bitcoin spot volume shows that we are far from highs and trending more in the lower end of volume (but still higher as in last bear market).

Interesting to see it that with the current move upwards, the funding rates have gone down massively. Typically, funding is most of the time positive, but now we are since some days in deep red territory. Thus, way more people are shorting the market at this stage and do not believe in the positive momentum.

This could now either lead to a short term squeeze against the short sellers and we see another push upwards to the earlier mentioned $85-87k range, or the bears win and we go lower. However, I do not want to focus too much on short term movements here.

All over all, looking at these data, the time we are in the cycle, the upcoming summer phase, the overheated conditions on the stock market, I find it hard to believe, that we are just going up from here. We are technically still in a bear for Bitcoin.

Final Thoughts

My main thesis stays intact. This is not the time to be Risk-On. Between extreme valuations, AI hype, and a disrupted global economy, the honeymoon in the markets is likely nearing its end.

The markets can stay irrational longer than you can stay liquid, but the signs are everywhere. Can we stay higher longer? Sure we can. It wouldn't be surprising if the highly anticipated IPOs of the earlier mentioned AI companies eventually mark the structural top of this market cycle.

I scaled more into my shorts during the run-up this week and took profits from my hedge trade. Beyond that, I am practicing patience. No new purchases were made. And remember: You should never chase a market that is “playing with fire”.

We have seen a truly interesting week. NASA performed the longest journey in human history, yet this was almost ignored as all eyes remained fixated on the conflict in Iran. The “good” news: a two-week ceasefire has been achieved. However, the first day of negotiations did not end well.

This week, I want to look at how sustainable the current Bitcoin run-up really is. What impact did the war actually have, and how does Bitcoin’s performance compare to the stock market? Let’s dive in.

The War Impact: BTC vs. TradFi

Since February 28th, the world has been watching the escalation in Iran. Let’s look at the market movement since that date.

Bitcoin has moved up roughly 12% from its February 28th low. On the news of the ceasefire, it spiked initially but then retraced, leaving us with zero change.

In comparison, the Nasdaq saw a 3% increase (recovering 10.4% after an initial 6.8% drop). The S&P 500 has been basically flat, surging 7.9% only after the ceasefire announcement following a 7.2% drop.

What does this show us? Compared to the stock market, Bitcoin is not showing significant strength. We didn't even see a meaningful counter-rally after the ceasefire announcement. In my view, this isn't unusual. As I’ve mentioned before, we are in a bear market, and there is no substantial organic strength incoming. Even the massive purchases by Michael Saylor aren't enough to shift the macro trend.

We are seeing news-driven moves that are typically unsustainable and often retraced within days (see e.g. a research by CryptoDaily).

Furthermore, the economic impact of this conflict will likely hit in the coming weeks. It’s about more than just oil prices; we’re talking about fertilizers and helium (essential for chip production). I expect oil prices to stay higher for longer, which will continue to weigh on the global economy and, by extension, crypto prices.

The Liquidity Debate: GLI vs. M2

Liquidity was already rolling over before the conflict began, but the war is now acting as an accelerant. Global liquidity has declined for four straight weeks. The rising Dollar, bond market volatility, and declining Fed liquidity are driving this move per the Global Liquidity Index (GLI).

In my previous report, Does Bitcoin really lag Global Liquidity?, I noted that BTC typically tops before global liquidity, with the two diverging early in bear markets: Exactly what we are seeing now. BTC then bottoms once the liquidity cycle hits its floor, a process that took about a year in previous cycles. We are currently about half a year into that process.

A Note on the "Pal vs. Howell" Perspectives

Per GLI data, the liquidity cycle has topped and is in a structural decline. I know Raoul Pal (Global Macro Investor) constantly suggests that liquidity is still rising. Here are two things to consider:

1. The Data Depth: Raoul focuses on simple, public aggregates like M2 Money Supply. GLI is a much broader proprietary measure that tracks the flow of cash and credit and, crucially, the momentum/growth rate rather than just absolute levels. It essentially starts where M2 ends.

2. The Reality Check: Raoul is still calling for a Bitcoin cycle top in Q2 2026. That would require a surge of 80–100% within the next 2.5 months. I’ll leave that scenario to your imagination, but I cannot see it being anywhere close to reality.

Why is liquidity declining?

1. Global Tightening: Japan is considering more rate hikes (after 150 bps since July ‘24). The EU expects 2–3 hikes, and the UK anticipates two. The Fed has zero rate cuts priced for this year. China is the only outlier currently easing.

2. Oil: Higher energy costs are tightening financial conditions and borrowing rates.

3. Fiscal: Tax refunds are being offset by the rising cost of living and energy.

In my perspective, the market did not yet broadly price in the full risks related to the conflict and its mid term causes. Once we see this, I expect a further drag on liquidity via rising bond market volatility and a rising dollar.

For me, the posts on X from Trump, are nothing more as noise in the global theatre and we will on a long not even realize in the chart pattern that anything happened. The market was already before the war in a bear market (for Bitcoin) and beyond the topping for the stocks.

Hence, it is still in a reasonable scenario to hit ATHs for the stock market on a short notice, as we are not far from it. However, I do not expect it to grow mid term and due to all the side effects of the war, see a decline over the next months.

Final Thoughts

The overall cycle turned long before the conflict. The war is simply lasting longer than expected, creating unclear outcomes that further tighten liquidity. The Fed is currently unable to ease unless a major systemic break occurs, which would lead to a downturn first anyway.

Bitcoin’s structure remains firmly in a bear market. As long as we stay below $80k without a daily candle close above it, the thesis doesn’t change. The Realized Price is slowly moving downward, currently sitting at $54,200. Historically, we have always dipped below this level before a true bottom is formed. That remains my base case for the coming months.

Short term, noise from X and Truth Social will cause volatility, but the overall picture stays the same: the bottom is not in. Bear markets are exhausting, but now is the time to calm the anxiety and sit on your hands.

There has been very little change over the last week, largely due to the Easter break and the persistent uncertainty hanging over the global markets. The stock market attempted a downward move but rallied back following a series of posts on X. Between volatile market sentiment and a very irritating post from President Trump via Truth Social, forecasting the immediate week ahead is almost impossible.

As my core thesis remains the same, I want to pivot today. There is a saying that fortunes are made in bull markets, but they are designed in bear markets. Market Health

To understand the health of the market beyond Bitcoin, we have to analyze the distribution of the current $2.29 trillion total crypto market cap.

Out of this, we have the following distribution:

• BTC: 59%

• L1s: 25%

• Stablecoins: 14%

• DeFi: 2%

The total market cap is down 46,5% from its $4.28 trillion peak. This is remarkably consistent with the 2021/2022 cycle, which was down 40% at this same 5.5-month mark. If we follow the historical “peak-to-trough” decline patterns of 2018 and 2022, we could see the total market cap fall roughly 62% from its peak to around $1.62 trillion. This would represent a further 30% decline from current levels, placing us exactly where history suggests we should be in this bear market.

Stablecoins

Everyone is bullish on stablecoins, and for good reason. Supply has surged by $192 billion over the last 2.5 years to an All-Time High (ATH) of $317 billion. Despite the downtrend in total crypto market cap, stablecoins have maintained their momentum.

However, we are now entering a sideways phase that mirrors previous cycles:

• In the ‘21 cycle, stablecoin supply peaked in April 2022, nearly five months after Bitcoin’s top

• In the current cycle, we are also five months past the BTC top and flatlining as capital flows stall in “risk-off” mode and leverage unwinds

The game-changer here is real-world utility. Stablecoins are rapidly becoming the preferred rail for cross-border payments and remittances. Because of this, seeing a “mint” alert on X for USDT doesn’t necessarily signal an immediate market pump anymore; it could simply be liquidity for global commerce.

Regulation & Institutional Moves

The GENIUS Act now prohibits U.S. stablecoin issuers from sharing yield with holders. While this supports the business models of giants like Circle and Tether, it creates a disadvantage for the end-user.

Interestingly, Tether recently hired KPMG as its auditor, sparking rumors of a potential IPO. We also expect them to launch a U.S.-compliant stablecoin to wrap around services like payroll, e-commerce, and banking.

A lot of building is being done, which eventually will lead to a further growth of stabelcoins and could trigger a fight with the traditional banking industry as they lose their old ways of extracting fees.

Perpetual Futures Markets

If stablecoins are the infrastructure, Perpetual Futures (Perps) are the energy. A perp is a derivative with no expiry date that uses a funding rate to stay in line with the spot price. They have stripped away complexity: no time decay, no expiry dates, allowing liquidity to concentrate 24/7.

For retail, this is the ultimate speculative tool. The crypto perps market grew 75% between January 2024 and January 2026, reaching volumes of $7.24 trillion. More importantly, Perp DEXs have increased their volume 8-fold, capturing 10.2% of the total market share.

The Rise of Hyperliquid

Hyperliquid has become the dominant force in this space, accounting for roughly 60% of DEX volume. Why is that so? Well, Hyperliquid is all and foremost one thing: Easy to use. One feature many exchanges and crypto services lack.

• Perp volumes are currently 4x daily spot volumes

• Retail energy is shifting: while Ethereum owned the ‘21 cycle and Solana the ‘25 cycle, the “animal spirits” are now converging on Hyperliquid

• HIP-3 & HyperEVM: Hyperliquid is expanding into a full financial system, allowing permissionless markets for commodities (oil, gold, silver), equities, and indices

Final Thoughts

The overall crypto market is in good shape, following a predictable structural path (as mentioned many times before). I see massive growth ahead for stablecoins in payments & remittance. Perps might be the narrative driver for the next bull run. This is why I am closely monitoring Perps platforms like Hyperliquid.

Bear markets are for deep research. The next bull run won’t look like the last one; it will be driven by the integration of modular markets and sophisticated on-chain derivatives.

Two weeks ago, I wrote about us being in the boring phase. However, looking at the global markets today, one could say we are anywhere but in a boring stage. We are seeing major indices like the S&P 500 and NASDAQ printing lower lows and losing traction week after week.

Last week, in particular, saw a significant sell-off fueled by the Iran conflict and growing insecurity regarding its duration. Markets are struggling to price in the long-term economic impact of this geopolitical instability. While the USA might be hit the least, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia face massive challenges. Recession probabilities have surged, and we face a paradoxical setup: central banks are considering interest rate hikes to combat rising inflation even as economies weaken. With 10-year bond yields rising, the pressure on housing markets and government debt refinancing is becoming immense. This sounds like many things, but boring isn't one of them.

Understanding the Drivers

First of all, I am not a geopolitical expert or a war strategist. You will hear many people right now who suddenly know everything: from military objectives to macroeconomics, sailing, and cooking. I don’t pretend to be any of those. My approach remains the same: I look at the data. I analyze the facts we see, compare them to how similar setups played out in the past, and identify where the highest probabilities lie. Having this said, let’s dive in.

Raising Volatility

I mentioned a while ago that we were likely to see rising volatility, and the charts are confirming this.

The VIX reflecting values over 20 typically signals a shift into risk-off mode; we are currently at 26. This reflects the deep-seated insecurity of the markets. However, we must think strategically: heightened volatility and market movements always bring opportunities for those who stay patient.

Where is the Stock Market Heading?

Based on the current trajectory of the conflict, a quick resolution seems unlikely. While a single tweet can cause short-term rallies or dips, the underlying data and historical trends point downward.

The NASDAQ has lost its 50-week Moving Average (green line), global liquidity is trending lower, and the U.S. real estate market is weakening as mortgage rates average above 6.4%. The Fed currently has very little room to maneuver. Historically, mid-term years are challenging for equities. Despite the narrative that Donald Trump wants a great stock market, no single individual can simply wish away a macro downturn.

I expect the NASDAQ to trend toward its 200-week WMA (orange line). This does not mean we have to go fully down until this point. Remember, I am looking at the bigger picture over the coming months. Short-term counter-movements are part of the process, but the trend remains your friend until it ends.

I am expecting some more volatility coming up this week and all is focussed if there is any progress in the conversations about a war ending. Do not get me wrong: a quick ending could bring the markets surging in April. Nevertheless, I do not foresee a strong push over the summer months and see lower prices. What this means for Bitcoin? A falling stock market is likely the final catalyst needed for one last push toward a lower low in Bitcoin.

Bitcoin On-Chain Data

What does the internal data for Bitcoin show us in this macro chaos?

As shown in the data, long-term holders (LTH) are stepping in as buyers again. Does this mean we’ve hit the bottom? Not necessarily. Back in 2022, LTHs started deploying capital early, yet the bear market continued to play out with further downward movement. We are likely seeing a similar pattern now. However, on a long-term scale, these prices represent solid entry points, and seeing buyers in this area is a structurally positive sign.

Looking at the Unrealized Profit/Loss Ratio, it confirms we aren't quite “there” yet. In every previous cycle, we reached the green capitulation area before the true reversal. We still have some room to move into that zone.

The Dashboard: KPI Check-in

The indicators I follow are not yet flashing a definitive bottom signal. Values are slowly trending in that direction, but given the time factor of this bear market and the current macro environment, there is likely more pain to come before the gain.

Final Thoughts

We saw crypto investors struggle to realize the bear market began in late 2025. We are likely seeing that same delayed realization in traditional markets right now. This is a classic psychological bias: it is difficult to change your original investment thesis and realize the market isn’t going in your favored direction.

A famous quote often attributed to Baron Rothschild (and echoed by Warren Buffett’s philosophy) is to buy when there is blood on the streets. This is fundamentally true. I would add that when everyone finally agrees “it is over” or “it will only go higher”, that is the true sign of an end. I have not seen that level of total capitulation yet; neither in Bitcoin nor the stock market.

Given the setup, my base case for new lows below $60k remains unchanged. The shorts I opened previously are still active. My overall allocation remains unchanged.

So, let’s look at where we actually stand today.

Understanding the Relief Rally: Trading vs. Investing

Since the $60k low, we have seen upward momentum. This is a fact. But to navigate this, you must know your plan: Are you a short-term trader or a long-term investor?

If you zoom out, we are still in a bearish setup. All this has happened multiple times in the past and is a normal reaction to being oversold. Could you trade this? Sure, if you want to take short term trading into consideration. We went up 27%. As we did in the last cycles (sometimes even over 55%).

However, I do not see how one can get bullish at this very stage. We are still below the $80k–$85k resistance level. This is where the highest volume was traded during the downtrend and where many short-term holders have their entry points (see the big green spike in the graph at $85k).

Checking the past - in none of the previous bear markets we have ever reached that point again. If we go above this level, we are likely to have seen the bottom. For me, nothings shows this - despite what some people out there say. The chart structure does not signal a bottom; statistically, the probability of further downside remains much higher.

The "Saylor Factor": Sustainable Demand or Short-Term Pump?

Michael Saylor has deployed roughly $3B into the market over the last two weeks, pushing his total holdings to 761,068 BTC. So that is a massive amount of money he raised and pumped into the system, which he was not able to do in the previous bear market. However, it is worth stating, that he did not have the big global standing back in 2022 as compared to now.

The question we must ask: Does this change the structural reality of the bear market, or is it just a temporary correction? In a risk-off macro environment, it is difficult to see how this level of demand can be sustained indefinitely. Even with high yields for his products, Saylor's buying power eventually faces limitations.

Final Thoughts

Markets hate uncertainty, and right now, we have it all over the place:

• Ongoing global conflicts and rising oil prices

• A hawkish Fed and expected higher inflation driven by energy costs

• Weak employment rates and increasing long-term yield curves, which signal trouble for the housing market

• While disruptive, the long-term effect of AI integration on corporate earnings and market liquidity is still being priced in

Given this unclear ground, I see no reason to change my thesis: lower prices are likely ahead. While I cannot give an exact date, looking at past seasonality, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the next leg down within the next 2 to 6 weeks.ks.

We are entering a phase where Bitcoin seems not to be of interest for many. From mainstream media to X, forums, and Discord, the spotlight has shifted elsewhere. Global attention is currently fixated on the conflict in Iran, the latest Epstein revelations, and surging oil prices.

So, is Bitcoin dead (for now)? Hardly. We are simply entering the boring phase. The quiet period where focused observation pays off. Fun fact: Bitcoin has been declared dead 471 times to date (Source: bitcoindeaths.com). And yet, here we are. Today, I am checking the health of the network.

Network Vitality: The Hash Rate

The Hash Rate is perhaps the most critical metric for Bitcoin’s health. An increasing rate means the network is more expensive to attack and signals long-term capital commitment. Mining is a capital-intensive business; no one invests billions into hardware and infrastructure without deep confidence in the network's longevity.

Currently, the hash rate is down about 7% from its peak, but it has grown nearly 4x since early 2023. However, a challenge is coming up for miners. The network currently generates roughly $30M in daily block reward payouts (Source: Bitinfocharts). With the block rewards decreasing each halving every four years, miners face a revenue squeeze if BTC price appreciation or transaction fees (currently only ~0.6% of revenue) don't compensate for the reduction.

This week, we also reached a milestone: the 20 millionth Bitcoin was minted, meaning only one million coins remain to be discovered (95.2% are already in circulation).

What does this show us?

The hash rate is increasing, but the block rewards are not, which means that miners need to find ways to increase their market share in order to increase their revenue potential (or they will not be cashflow positive anymore). For this, they would need capital and access to cheap energy to do so. At the end, this will favour larger miners and the decentralisation of the network will decrease.

Network Usage

On-chain data shows that active addresses are hovering near levels seen in 2017 and 2018. Why hasn’t this increased?

The answer lies in how we use Bitcoin today. Most participants interact through centralized exchanges, ETFs, custodians, or "wrapped" BTC. These layers handle the activity off-chain, meaning they don't generate new on-chain addresses.

As Bitcoin is also not being used for payments (as some people thought it could be), there is no increasing on-chain usage from this side.

The potential risk we have here is, if the active addresses continue to go down while the transactions fees keep as low as currently, miners could get under pressure at some point. Of course only if the Bitcoin price is not keep going up over time (which is however my thesis).

Looking at the addresses in general however, we see still a steady increase - they doubled within the last 6 years. So even with less active addresses, one could anticipate, more people buy and hold for a longer period and see a case for the digital gold concept.

Institutional Adoption

As mentioned earlier, we had the most successful ETF launch with Bitcoin. This reflects in currently 1.28m Bitcoin being hold by ETFs. That is 6.1% of the total supply. Also the fact, the even if we had a large pullback of the BTC price, the ETF holdings are only down around 9% from its all time high - this in fact, is a very positive signal.

So according to this data, ETF holders seem to have strong hands and these investors are more into long term holding rather than looking for a quick Dollar.

Next to the ETFs we also have a lot of holdings by other entities and treasury companies (Source: BitBo):

• Countries: 518.526 BTC ($37.06 Billion)

• Public Companies: 1.109.520 BTC ($79.29 Billion)

• Private Companies: 431.260 BTC ($30.82 Billion)

• BTC Mining Companies: 126.786 BTC ($9.06 Billion)

• Defi: 267.236 BTC ($19.10 Billion)

Including ETFs, approximately 17% of the total supply is now in institutional or state hands. Ask yourself: would these entities deploy billions into an asset they believe is going to zero?

Final Thoughts

Bitcoin remains a risk-on asset, but the risk/reward profile is shifting. I believe Bitcoin is actually becoming less risky to hold over time. It has 100% uptime, has never been hacked, and is now integrated into the offerings of almost every major global bank. The U.S. government has even established a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.

While influencers (or whatever you want to call them) talk about a return to $1.000 or claim it’s a Ponzi scheme, the data tells a different story:

1. Hash rate is up 6x over the last few years.

2. Institutional integration is complete (ETFs, custodians).

3. Bitcoin maintains its dominance as the #1 crypto asset.

Yet, only about 2% of the global population owns it. To me, that sounds like a very asymmetric opportunity.

Portfolio Management

No changes in my portfolio this week. I used the recent supply area retest to increase my short positions. Since we didn't fully reach my expected ceiling, the relief rally may not be entirely over: the $74k–$80k range remains a possibility.

However, on a macro scale, I am still looking for lower prices. Rising oil prices and a weakening S&P 500 at the end of the week could create further headwinds for Bitcoin. I’m staying patient (as you know by now).

We have seen some positive momentum over the past few days. As mentioned previously, this was an expected counter-reaction of the market from an oversold territory. However, this is a standard movement that we have seen in previous cycles. Today, I want to look at what we might expect over the coming months, review the KPI table I monitor, and provide an update on my personal positioning (It is getting serious).

Cycle Awareness

At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading around $68k, down 46% from its ATH set on October 6, 2025 (153 days ago).

To put this into perspective:

• 2021 Cycle: Bitcoin was down 43% at this stage.

• 2017 Cycle: Bitcoin was down 59% at this stage.

Having been in this bear market for 5 months, Bitcoin is very much aligned with what we have seen in the past. While we started with a very fast pace, we seem to have fallen back into the familiar rhythms of previous cycles.

We have seen strong run-ups within bear markets: The so called bull-traps. I have seen many traders chasing these retracement rallies, but it is cruical to track the upside limits. Many people still refuse to think this is a bear market, keep their longs and will get “rekt” or forced to sit on losses for a long time.

Based on current patterns, we may have finished the second of three expected bear market rallies. However, the structure remains bearish. As I noted in my previous letter, I expected a reclaim in the $74k–$80k range. The fact that we topped out perfectly at $74k suggests to me that the uptrend probably has concluded.

Where do we go from now?

Looking back at 2022, when Bitcoin first crossed the 111 WMA (red line), it took six weeks to plunge below the 200 WMA (orange line). That was followed by an almost 150-day sideways phase before the final capitulation crash (FTX). If we extrapolate that six-week timeframe (yellow frame) to our current setup, the next 2–3 weeks will be critical. We need to observe if history repeats and we fail to hold the $60k range, dropping below $58.500. Projecting the 2022 timeline forward, we could potentially see the cycle bottom around late August or early September this year.

The Dashboard KPIs

As mentioned in the previous letter, I am looking at the following table (“Today’s” numbers are from the time of writing), compare the current situation with past movements and try to make a decision based on this data. Yes, last time I had further data points - which I am looking at as a support - however, these here are my main focus:

As you see, compared to previous cycle lows, there is still space for a further decrease. The 12-Month RSI has been lower some weeks ago and in the 2018 range, which is why I put it orange. All the others are still not close the previous cycle lows.

What does this mean?

I am observing how the market plays out and how these numbers evolve. If I see major changes, I get myself ready to deploy.

Final Thoughts

If I see a drop below the 200 WMA, I get a portion of my Cash ready to deploy. Not everything, but this will be on a long run, a very good entry point.

There is always the tension between deploying capital too early, not deploying enough in the bottom area and trying to get the right entry. I always mention to remain patient, but I mean this if you have some allocation already. If you are totally out of the market, the above tension kicks probably more. That’s why this time, you will find my %-allocation below, to give some more guidance here.

Portfolio Management

I personally used this recent run-up into the expected supply zone to scale into my short positions (with disciplined risk management, of course). This may not be what everyone wants to hear, but for me, this is not the right time to buy big. If the relief rally continues, I will act accordingly, but I currently see no reason to believe this bear market is over.

Therefore, patience remains king (I must sound like a broken disc at this stage).

When looking at Bitcoin, there are hundreds of indicators, curves, and random inventions people use to find "magic" outcomes. Even if you sometimes find truth in them (by coincidence or whatever), I try to stick to solid foundations that have been proven right in the past and are grounded in data.

The 10 Data Points

These are the metrics I monitor to see where we stand:

MVRV

This measures the relationship between Market Value and Realised Value.

To give some more perspective on what it means:

• Market Value (MV) is Bitcoin’s total market capitalisation (current price multiplied by circulating supply). It reflects what the market currently believes Bitcoin is worth.

• Realised Value (RV) calculates the value of every Bitcoin at the price it was last moved on-chain. It represents the aggregate "cost basis" of the entire supply; what holders actually paid for their coins.

The MVRV (Meaning MV divided by RV) ratio gives you a perspective on how much the current price is over (or under) the average costs price of all Bitcoins.

What does this mean in numbers?

• MVRV = 1: The price equals the average cost basis; most holders are at break-even.

• MVRV > 1: The majority are in profit. In bull markets, we see this climb significantly.

• MVRV < 1: The majority are in unrealised loss. Values below 1 have historically marked bear market lows and great accumulation zones (see the red areas in the chart).

Currently we have a MVRV of 1.23 → meaning we are around “fair value”, but not in a classic capitulation territory we have seen in previous bear markets.

MVRV Z-Score

The MVRV Z-Score normalises the deviation statistically:

MVRV Z-Score = (Market Value – Realised Value) / standard deviation of Market Value

This version highlights extreme deviations more clearly (as we have seen in previous bull markets). Values above 7 have historically showed major tops, while values below 0 (or even negative) have marked undervaluation zones.

12-Month RSI

This helps me measure long-term momentum and potential trend exhaustion, filtering out short-term noise. As you see in the chart, the area between 44 and 39 are historically indicating a bottom area. Currently we sit at 44.44.

BTC vs. 200-Week Moving Average (WMA)

A classic technical benchmark that has acted as a macro support layer in previous cycles. Currently it sits around $58,400.

Supply held by Long-Term Holders (LTH)

Long-Term Holders (LTH) are defined as addresses holding Bitcoin for 155 days or more. This cohort is often viewed as “smart money”. Investors with high conviction who tend to accumulate during weakness and distribute (sell) into strength.

Rising LTH supply signals accumulation by strong hands, reducing available circulating supply and often supporting price floors. Declining LTH supply indicates distribution, which can create overhead pressure during bull runs.

LTH supply stands at approximately 72–73% of the circulating supply. Recent trends show net accumulation in the past month, suggesting conviction holders are buying weakness.

Supply held by STH

Short-Term Holders (STH) hold Bitcoin for less than 155 days. This group is frequently labeled “dumb money” ; typically retail. More price-sensitive, FOMO buying at highs and panic selling at lows.

Rising STH supply often coincides with euphoric tops, while sharp declines can signal capitulation and bottoms (weak hands shaking out).

STH supply is around 12–13% of circulating supply. This is relatively low and recent price weakness has seen limited panic from this cohort.

LTH Supply in Loss

When high-conviction holders begin to realize losses, it marks the final phase of a bear market. Currently, LTH supply in loss is negligible (<0.1%), suggesting that while we are in a correction, we haven’t reached full terminal capitulation.

Price-to-Cost-of-Production

When the market price drops below mining costs, forced miner selling often creates a floor. With Average Mining Costs at $89,800 and BTC at $68,400, our current ratio is 0.76.

BTC Realised Price Band

The average price paid by the market (currently ~$54,500). Historically, price tends to dip below this before finding a structural bottom.

Global Money Supply (M2)

As Bitcoin acts as a liquidity sponge, the growth of global M2 is the primary engine for “risk-on” environments. I have discussed how BTC is reacting to M2 (leading & lagging) in a previous report. As we currently have war going on, things remain being to observed and how this will play out.

Final Thoughts

You may ask which indicators are currently flashing green. My answer remains: we are still in a "wait and watch" phase. My strategy is not to guess the exact day of the bottom, but to wait until the confluence of these 10 data points aligns with a high-probability setup. However, some indicators show me, that we should not be too far away from a bottoming area (this is of course to be seen relatively to the ATH).

Portfolio Management

No major updates. As mentioned, if you have no allocation, current prices are at fair value, and I prefer to have "some eggs in the basket" rather than being completely out.

NOTE: This was written before todays run up. As mentioned in my previous post, this is an expected rally to approx. a range between $74k-80k in my perspective.

my original plan for today was to focus on the roadmap for the coming months. However, the world changed over the weekend. With the recent attacks involving Iran and several other nations, we are entering a phase of heightened volatility.

War is a tragedy first and foremost, but for the markets, its primary product is uncertainty. When you combine the drums of war with the rapid, disruptive rise of AI technology, which is currently reshaping our economy and daily lives, you get a perfect storm of unpredictability.

Markets are built on anticipating future cash flows and stability. Right now, nobody can say for sure who the winners of this transition will be. When the “if” and “when” become too loud, investors do what they always do: they head for the exits. What does this mean for the market? I would expect a more volatile time ahead of us and the VIX to continue to increase.

Volatility is the New Baseline

Typically, markets try to price in the future. But how do you price in a world where kinetic warfare and AI disruption happen simultaneously?

Historically, values over 20 tend to go into risk-off mode. We came from a level below 15 and I expect to cross the 20 next week, as we did multiple times last year - which led to a sell off (e.g. April 2025: Liberation Day).

As we can see, the VIX is climbing. This mirrors the growing unease. While I observe many "bullish" charts for Bitcoin suggesting that BTC acts as a hedge during conflict (referencing brief rallies in previous wars), I remain skeptical.

The AI Disruption Factor

It’s not just the geopolitics. We are standing at the doorstep of an AI revolution that looks to disrupt the very foundations of our society. This adds another layer of Unknown Unknowns.

• Labor Markets: Uncertainty about job stability affects consumer spending. Below as one example which ran through the media the last days with Block releasing 40% of their labor force.

• Capital Allocation: Huge amounts of liquidity are being sucked into AI infrastructure, leaving less for speculative “risk-on” assets like crypto.

The "Relief Rally" Trap

Yes, we might see a technical bounce. A relief rally toward the $74k - $80k zone is possible (it would be a Short Squeeze getting >7b of shorts out of the market).

In my view, we are still firmly in a bear market. A spike to $74-80k would likely be a lower high on the macro scale before we see a further leg down over the coming months (which is my base case). Even though, we have seen the $60k holding now for a while, I would prefer the short rally up before we go down. Yes, there is always a probability we have seen the bottom - but as stated above, macro does not give me this indication yet.

Final Thoughts

Uncertainty is the enemy of growth. Until we have clarity on the escalation in the Middle East and a clearer picture of how AI integration affects corporate earnings, the so called Smart Money will likely stay on the sidelines or in Gold (as discussed in one of my previous letters).

Portfolio Management

I am holding my ground. While the temptation to “buy the dip” during war-induced volatility is high, the macro setup (Hawkish Fed + Geopolitical Stress + AI disruption) suggests that patience is still the most valuable asset in your portfolio. I am watching the $54k level (Realised Price) closely for any signs of a structural bottom, but we are not there yet.

If you have no position yet: On a long term perspective, I think we are trending around fair price. Many of the data points I am looking at are close to where I want them to be (more on this in a later letter).

most of us will probably only know the “Gold Rush” from what we have been told at history classes in school. This happened around the 1850s. That is the feeling many had in 2025, when the crypto spot ETFs were smashing almost daily records and everyone felt there is only one direction: “up right”.

Fast forwards to February 2026, it feels like waking up from a very long night with to many drinks. Since Oktober last year, we have seen consistent weekly net outflows from major crypto ETFs. With this, the question may arise: Was institutional adoption just the next hype? Is “Smart Money” leaving the dance floor?

Today, I am looking under the hood of the current market dynamics and provide some more clarity in that picture.

ETF-Hangover: What is Really Happening?

First, let us look at the hard numbers:

• YTD 2026 Net Outflows: $4.5 billion

• Since October 2025 Peak: Cumulative $10 billion outflows

• Cumulative Net Inflows Since Launch: $54.4 billion

• Total ETF AUM: $91 billion (ca. 6% of BTC’s market cap)

Yes, the last months and especially the last 5 weeks have been challenging. However, it is easy to interpret the red bars on an ETF flow chart as a total exit. Giving it a more nuanced picture, we can see:

• Institutions are Rebalancing: Portfolio managers are bound by strict mandates. After the massive run-up in 2025, Bitcoin’s weighting in many diversified funds simply became “too large.” The selling we’ve seen since October isn’t necessarily a vote of no confidence; it is simple math. They are trimming gains to maintain their target allocations.

• Risk-Off Mode: Wall Street is reducing speculative bets. Uncertainty around FED rates, Trump policies & tariffs and Gold pulls liquidity. BTC is once again treated purely as a “risk asset,” not digital gold.

• There are no Buyers: The ETF narrative (“institutions finally here”) has cooled. No new billions from pensions/sovereigns on the horizon. What we have instead is rebalancing and no retail around the corner (especially after the October flash-crash.

• Technical & Psychological Feedback Loop: Coming from the previous point, this leads to: Outflows → less buy pressure → price drops → more outflows. Classic negative spiral.

The ETF outflows are real and painful, but they haven’t destroyed the $54.4B structural inflow foundation built since 2024. This is a stress test for the “Bitcoin as institutional asset” thesis. Honeymoon might be over, but we are just back to reality and need to organised ourselves after the shiny phase.

As mentioned in my previous report, US as main capital driver and Eurozone are going into risk-off mode. We have a potential War in Iran, there is still a war in Ukraine, we have the trade conflicts and many political “issues” growing in multiple countries. Additionally, we have the so seen holy grail, called AI, which may disrupt many things we have build our society and economy on. All this at once. there is a big portion of uncertainty in the markets, which is reflecting risk-on assets, and crypto is still seen as a risk-on asset class.

What I’m Watching Now

Looking at the graph, we can see that Bitcoin broke the main on-chain pricing models while heading to the Realised Price which currently ranges around $54,600. Considering past bear markets we tend to cross this line and bottom somewhere not far below it.

Additionally, the MVRV (Market Value to Realised Value) is something I closely observe in my analysis before making moves. Historically, we are in a very low phase already, however, the deep bear market at peak bottom, tend to give us a MVRV below 1.

It looks like we can see sellers getting less. However, there is still no big demand pressure incoming and the market seems to be week. Around the bottom area, there is normally a big shift in demand happening. This mirrors with my thesis above, that the price will probably drop below the Realised Price, meaning below the $54,600 mark before we are getting into the bottom area.

So I need to repeat myself like a clock: it is still the time to be patient.

In this piece, I’ve looked at Bitcoin and Global Liquidity, as there are many voices out there talking about a lag between Bitcoin and liquidity.

Last week, Global Liquidity rose to a record $188 trillion! This was mainly driven by another PBoC injection ahead of the Chinese New Year and the further weakness of the USD. So, if the “lagging” narrative is correct, we should see a rally within the next few months (according to Raoul Pal, who states in Global Macro Investor that Global Liquidity explains 90% of Bitcoin’s price action). But is this really the case?

Let’s take a look at the data for a deeper dive.

Currently, we see the 3-month annualized growth rate at 3.6%, while the annual growth rate sits at 8.7% with Global Liquidity at an all-time high (ATH).

Looking at this narrative or data, one could easily draw this conclusion. Nevertheless, if we look at what happened in previous cycles, Global Liquidity continued to increase even after Bitcoin peaked.

This suggests that what we’ve been told might not reflect reality. One could ask the question: Is Bitcoin perhaps not lagging Global Liquidity, but actually leading it?

Think about it. Markets in general are forward-looking (as seen when earnings reports are released, etc.). Since Bitcoin can be traded 24/7, all information on a global scale is immediately reflected in the price. Why would it lag? From my perspective, there is a valid chance that Bitcoin acts as a front-runner for an upcoming drainage of liquidity.

But maybe that’s too simple. When looking at the bear market, Global Liquidity seems to lead again. Why? Probably because in this environment, markets are waiting for clear signals from central banks and the government.

If what I’ve written above is true, we should see a drop in Global Liquidity soon. You might remember: in the previous cycle, the Fed’s rapid rate hikes, as a response to pandemic-induced inflation, caused a liquidity squeeze.

What could it be this time? With Kevin Warsh recently announced as the new Fed Chair, we’re seeing some interesting signals. He is known for being more hawkish:

· He clearly states a willingness to reduce the balance sheet, which is usually not a “sweet spot” for risk-on assets.

· He wants to curb government spending.

· He may not favor Quantitative Easing as much as previous Fed chairs did during crises.

I am aware he also favors cutting interest rates quickly rather than slowly; however, the current economic setup does not seem very stable and might result in a short-term pain scenario. Since I believe we are currently in a crypto bear market, all of this would only confirm this thesis.

Final Thoughts

As shown above, Bitcoin led Global Liquidity at previous cycle tops. And today? We see a potential shift in fiscal policy with the new Fed Chair. This will likely not have a positive impact on risk-on assets during this transition phase. Markets in the US and Europe are already “pricing this in,” with asset allocation strategies shifting to “risk-off” mode, and the Eurozone and UK following suit. Outliers are still Korea and China.

Portfolio Allocation

Based on the current setup, I remain in favor of staying patient and not leaning into “risk-on” mode just yet. The combination of a potential liquidity drainage and a shifting policy regime suggests that a defensive posture is the wiser choice for now.

Four months have passed since Bitcoin peaked on October 6th. In the meantime, Gold continues to outperform.

But why is Gold outperforming? Is the BTC/Gold ratio giving us some signs? And why does it look like we may end up in a great buying opportunity?

This week, I am analyzing Gold vs BTC and identify potential catalysts for the next move.

Gold vs BTC

BTC is currently down roughly 46% from the high established on 06.10.25 (134 days ago).

Compared to the last two cycles:

• ‘21 Cycle: BTC was down 45% 134 days post the 09.11.21 peak

• ‘17 Cycle: BTC was down 59% 134 days post the 18.12.17 peak

So, Bitcoin is quite in line with last cycle. However, it feels worse this time.

Why is that?

In my view, this is due to the outperformance of Gold & Silver against Bitcoin’s weakness. Gold is up 26% since 06.10.25. Silver is up 51% (with 157% at its peak).

But - as in most of the cases - when we zoom out, one should not be concerned to much.

A Comparison

• BTC is currently down 67% vs. Gold from its peak ratio of 40 on 17.12.24.

• In the last cycle, the ratio peaked at 37 and bottomed at 9 (76% decline).

• In the ‘17 cycle, the ratio peaked at 15 and bottomed at 2.6 (83% decline).

What can we see from here?

What we’ve seen so far look to be in line with what we would expect to see in terms of the Gold/BTC ratio.

The main difference from the past is, that Gold is outperforming, which makes it feel to be different.

However, do not forget that BTC grew 6.6x in this last cycle. Gold is not even up 2x over the same period. Therefore, the discussion if BTC has lost it’s strength relative to Gold, seems to be not more than recency bias.

What is the reason for Gold’s Outperformance?

Gold is the typical asset for global markets when there is uncertainty. Therefore, you may see it as a warning system → it goes up when the confidence in geopolitical, fiscal or monetary stability decreases. All this, before the real stress becomes visible in traditional market indicators.

Diving deeper, it seems that specifically China is the main driver in the rising Gold price, due to large purchases and a reduction from the US-Dollar exposure.

Why does China buy Gold?

• No issuing country

• Cannot be sanctioned

• There is no counterparty

• Settlement rails cannot be blocked

BTC

At present, Bitcoin (“digital gold”) lacks the classic tailwinds that typically support traditional safe-haven assets. Despite the recent establishment of a U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, BTC continues to behave predominantly as a risk-on asset rather than a risk-off one.

Its price dynamics are governed by a distinct set of forces: waves of network adoption, global liquidity cycles, on-chain feedback loops, and other unique catalysts tied to technological proliferation and broader internet-scale growth.

For Bitcoin to fully evolve into a credible risk-off reserve asset, wide accumulation by central banks will likely be required. I expect this shift to materialise eventually, though probably not until the millennial generation assumes primary economic and policy influence.

Where might BTC/Gold Ratio Bottom?

So looking at my base case, I would anticipate the ratio to bottom similarly as in the past two cycles (with a higher low!). This would mean a decline of around 75% (which is close to where we are right now) and a ratio of around 10-11.

Closing Thoughts

Rotation from Gold/Silver?

I remain skeptical that this transition will occur in the foreseeable future. The investor bases for gold/commodities and cryptocurrency remain fundamentally different, shaped by generational preferences and risk tolerances.

Moreover, any capital rotation out of gold into Bitcoin is more likely to come from late-stage retail participants chasing commodity-like momentum. This group tends to enter at elevated valuations and is more vulnerable to drawdowns and realised losses.

For these reasons, I view patience as the best strategy at this very moment.

Bitcoin is now trading at $67k on the 200 EMA support level and the chart looks broken.

As mentioned above: I stay patient. There are no signs indicating “risk-on” and there is still potential for a further leg down over the coming weeks if the cycle performs as the previous one(s). I keep some cash on the side to deploy once I see clear signs from the market.
